Re: wiring spot/driving lights

Long time between postings, but just jumping on this thread to see if anyone's installed ARB Intensity LED driving lights. I just checked out one of the nearby 4x4 shops and they had a deal for fitting a set of these for around $1600... kind of steep compared to the HIDs.

The sales chap did mention that I'd need to get a mounting bar fitted. For all intents and purposes, these look like exactly what I'm after.

http://www.arb.com.au/products/vehicle-lighting-accessories/arb-led-range/

I did enquire about the Lightforce with HID, but he pointed out that the ease of removal of the 170's are a thief magnet (simply unscrew and the reflector body is gone).

Seeing that I prefer to do evening and night driving, I'm leaning towards the ARB's and would welcome some thoughts and discussion from those who have seen and used them on their exy's.

Re:

I don't know how any body can justify spending that much for a set of spotties.
Even the HID I believe are overpriced.

Bang for your buck you can't go past the Narva 225 halogen at $300 a pair.

Re:

That's a mad price indeed and you might as well fit two LED full length bars which would beat these overpriced LED sptties hands down and for a fraction of the cost.

Re:

All LED lights (and more especially the bars) are thief magnets.

Most last barely a month up here in some parts of town, yet people still pay the money for them.

Not worth it unless you make it only removable by grinder or take the entire bullbar off.

Re:

Considering they're readily available everywhere, am a bit surprised that the thieves would go to such trouble for something that is not worth the risk!

Re:

Its the price tag, steal some and sells for 1/4 of the price and still make a bit. The newer they look the more chance of losing them sadly.

They are definitely nice lights to have and use, if you want to run the risk.

I would arm the spotties with constant 20 volt of power or something to come-on with the alarm to teach them a lesson LOL emoticon

Re:

Heh, thanks for the advice guys. Yeah, it's probably not worth putting on the Exy. I've gone with as much stealth installation of things as I can. Even the head unit looks factory - no branding can be seen from outside, even the reversing camera. Cargo blind keeps things out of sight too and putting a $1k set of spotties would just be the proverbial red flag to a bull to those with swift fingers.

Jalal, I'd agree, 20V is too low though, I'd ramp that up to about 5kV and keep the amps low.

Re:

I do like Nigel's thinking there. I know where to get 5kV meggers that will do the trick. Safe until you touch 2 connected parts at once :P

See Maryann, every problem has a solution LOL emoticon

Do that to a couple of thieves and get their reaction on the car's dash cam and post it on YouTube or Facebook for other's to learn a lesson from and you will find the habit of disappearing spotties suddenly change emoticon
