Wheel balance and sand driving

Hi all,

I had a wonderful run on the Stockton beach last weekend and the Exy handled the condition superbly. 15 psi tyre pressure seemed ideal for the condition.

Anyway, fun is over and now I am facing a problem. The steering wheel starts vibrating above 60kmph and becomes unbearable at 110kmph. I suspect the wheel balance is off, does anyone have similar problem after sand driving? Is it something to be expected after sand driving?

Thanks

Cheers

Re: Wheel balance and sand driving

I would not expect sand driving to throw a wheel off balance unless a weight fell off.

Perhaps you have just re-inflated the tyres to a higher pressure and so it is now noticeable? Just run it into any tyre shop and they will balance them all for you.

You definitely have a balance problem of some sort.

I would expect you still have some sand lodged in your rims.

Try give them a good blast with some high pressure water.

Thanks for the tip, the vibration problem goes away after removing the "sand cake" lodged inside two rear rims.
