You weren't the only one, even my 2 brothers in law called me and asked about the exy LOL emoticon

I was driving today and heard the news that another dust storm maybe coming soon, so I didn't wash it and it's still red emoticon

Will take pics tomorrow, as it looked like a leopard at the moment with those dust spots everywhere emoticon

I don't mind the Exy looking a little dusty occasionally, but I'd prefer to get it that way while having fun!!!

My [sign in to see URL] that's another story. It's red already, but two dust storms in a week have rendered it a very flat muddy colour. It kind of looks like the colour of dry clay. I'm not happy at all about that emoticon

Glad to hear the Chrome Exy is being restored to it's usual glory!!

After waking-up this morning around 5am and seeing this:

I thought it's not a good idea to restore the chrome beast to its shiny state, so it's still dusty emoticon

Ok when to wash the car. I follow a simple guideline. Weddings and Funerals. That's pretty much it LOL. Actually we purchased the factory "Xpack " paint and upholstrey protection. They claim you never have to wax or polish the car ever again.

Re:

Mine is still going thru the automatic car wash every 2-4 weeks, trouble is the build up of wax on the windscreen and headlights. Can get a new windscreen soon since there's a few stone chips, but the headlights have gone yellow and blotchy and thinking I'll have to get them polished, just not sure whether to risk it or not.
Otherwise I've found that with one of those fancy microfibre sponges with the dangly bits on one side, I can wipe it over using half a bucket of water and comes up really well.

Re: How often do you guys wash you car?

I have to thoroughly wash the exy regularly including removing bash plates for underbody cleaning. I'm averaging a beach trip (mainly for fishing) every 5 - 6 weeks and the build up of sand beteen bash plates and underbody just can't be completely removed unless plates removed. A thorough underbody wash with fresh water using pressure washer hopeully removes any salt build up as well.
Any way, removal of plates helps me touch up any rust spots on plates. Yesterday I completely resprayed plates with a quality paint that can be painted over rust (or so the can says). I used an angle grinder first to remove flaking paint as well as noticeable surface [sign in to see URL] around mounting holes and the edges.
Now thinking about the electronic rust prevention options................

cheers

Re:

Hi Dave,

You have encouraged me to put the Red Bull on ramps in the driveway and remove the bash plate (mainly the front one) and give it a good blast with the high pressure cleaner to get the remaining sand off from the lower bits of the car and suspension arms.

I was surprised to see surface rust was already starting to build-up on the drive-shafts and other suspension bits. The front bash plate itself was completely fine, no scratches or rust spots after the Woolgoolga trip and there wasn't much sand trapped in the bash plate either.

Came out from under the car all wet and muddy and my wife asked me "if everything was OK" as this was about 8am and she must have thought I had a bad dream or something to do this so early in the morning LOL emoticon

Re: How often do you guys wash you car?

yea Jalal.
I found that sand builds up inside the rear bumper and it's only by removing rear bash plate (or releasing the 2 rear mounting bolts) that I was able to get a hose inside the bumper to clear the sand. (i did not use the pressure cleaner inside the bumper in case I blew something off) My recent Fraser Island trip was often through a lot of soft sand and I did scrape the underbody on several sandy bush tracks with deeper wheel ruts. I was thinking about putting the washed out sand around my pool and over time, making my own private [sign in to see URL] ha.
Both my front and rear bash plates had nicks and scratches with flaking paint and surface rust. Easy to clean up and then [sign in to see URL] respraying mine over the wekend i found an unopened 1 litre can of GREY metal paint suitable for painting over [sign in to see URL] may respray again and then I will have grey bash plates to go with my grey Exy.

cheers

Re:

What I do now;

Wash once a month
Vaccum once a year
Clay/Polish once a year
Wax twice a year (sometimes only once a year)

After 4x4 = full detail except clay/polish/wax.

What I used to do before I was so busy and what I would like to do...
Every week
-Wash
-Vaccum
-Basic Detail (dust)

Every service point (max 6 months)
- Wash engine bay
- throughly detail (including clay/polish/wax)

If you ever use a manual car wash (I only do after 4x4 to get mud off), throughly rinse the car - they use a very harsh chemical (great for my dirt [sign in to see URL] for paint).

Always wash in the shade with cool paint ([sign in to see URL] up early)
