Audible Factory Alarm Activation

Hi Guys,

This idea has been mentioned on another forum and it caught my attention, as I think it's worth exploring.

My previous car (Toyota Camry) had a factory alarm system which was connected to the horn and when I pressed the door lock on the remote it beeped 1 time to indicate that all doors have been locked and 2 times to indicate that all doors have been unlocked.

This was in a addition to the visual indication of the flashing lights we now have on our exy.

The audible alarm activation was an option the driver could set or disable in the Camry using the remote.

I think this would be excellent to have with the exy too (if possible) as I had situations where I had a complete mind block and had to walk back to the car (15 mins walk where I park it at work) just to make sure that I did lock it.

I know that the exy has a feature where it auto-locks after about 5 mins if you disable the alarm and don't open any door, but this is not the case when you're inside the car and stop to park.

My question is:

Has anybody explored this option before and do you think it can be done?

The solution doesn't mean adding an aftermarket alarm upgrade system which has this capability, rather using the existing factory set-up to make the alarm activation audible.

Jalal, what alarm??

As far as I am aware my X-Trail only has an immobiliser and remote locking, no alarm.

You know when your exy goes crazy and starts honking that horn sound when a door is opened while the car is locked? well, I consider this some sort of an alarm LOL

Yep, that would be an alarm but I was always told there was not an alarm only immobiliser. I have never opened a door while it was locked to see.

Will go an check.

Re: Audible Factory Alarm Activation

ok, I was right, no alarm on my car.

I unlocked it, opened the drivers window, locked it, left it for over 30 secs, reached in and unlocked the door .... silence.

Check out the specs for the Ti on the Nissan site ..

No mention of an alarm.

If you have an alarm then it must have been added by the dealer or they stopped including it between you buying yours and me buying mine!!

If you get a auto electrician to fit a relay to the wire that flash the indicators, it can be wired to beep your horn or even power a cheap piezo buzzer/chirper.

Re: Audible Factory Alarm Activation

Well what do you know? LOL

After 3 years of having the exy, there are still new things I learn about it everyday emoticon

I always thought that opening the door while the exy is locked would sound the horn and in fact I heard it doing that, but I guess my little boy was holding the remote and he must have pressed the panic button when this happened.

Now that I tried what you suggested Adam and got the same result, I think the factory engine immobiliser and "panic" alarm are just complete crap and will not offer any sort of protection to our exy emoticon

I was going to go into the details of the potential dangers involved and how easy it is to steal the exy here, but I wont, because I bet all of us get the picture now emoticon

Forget about my question in this case, I'm now in the market for a new alarm for sure!

I just consider myself lucky in the past 3 years and am not gonna push my luck anymore.

Thanks Adam for this little test which has really surprised me and maybe it'll surprise others.

Re: Audible Factory Alarm Activation

OK Guys,

The factory alarm thing is driving me nuts now.

I have just received confirmations from a Canadian and Mexican xtrailers saying their exy went crazy and sounded the horn (with lights flashing) as soon as they opened the door (with the window down) while their car was locked!

What is going on? Is this another cost saving exercise by Nissan Australia for what could be considered the basics of car theft prevention????

Can someone else try this test and let us know?

EDIT: UK xtrailers now also confirmed having the anti-theft alarm as standard!

Re: Audible Factory Alarm Activation

Jalal,

Mine is a series I, TI, and did the same. Window down, doors locked by key lock, then flick the door lever open and opened the door. No Alarm... emoticon

As per the Nissan Web-site (Australian) it looks that we don't have an alarm system but we do have an Engine Immobiliser.

But get this.... Try This.... Window down, lock your doors with the keypad, insert your key in the ignition and turn. The Engine Starts... emoticon, what happened to the Engine Immobiliser??? What don't we have this also???

I think this is a question which needs to go to Nissan Australia to explain.

Re: Audible Factory Alarm Activation

Hi guys,
The key has a programble chip in it and that activates the imobilizer thats why it starts, get a key cut and then try it won't start. I was also reading a artical on the keys and you will be happy to know that we have the second dearest key in Australia to get programed so dont loose your key from memory it was around $140
