Hi Tyson,

Welcome to the forums mate.

I'll move your question to the Q&A section of the forum, so you'll get better responses.

Also try searching the existing threads for info. as it has been discussed before.

I'll see if I can find the thread and guide you to it.

Re: how do you install a different cd player?????

Hi Tyson and welcome!

Unfortunately I still have the stock head unit installed, but I know there are a handful of people on this forum that have changed their head unit already... Just got to wait for them to respond, or maybe read some of the other threads in this Q&A section to see if you can come up with what you're after. Unfortunately the search feature of this forum isn't as good as it could be...

Re: how do you install a different cd player?????

Hi Tyson,

I changed my head unit over to a kenwood a few months ago. I was stumped with the wiring of the xtrail. I ended up getting it installed by a car sound dealer for $120. I then installed a 6 stacker and amp. I had a look at how they wired it up. what stumped my was that the little red wire which is with the aerial wire. This is the power to the antenae amp, having known this I would have been able to deduce the others by trial and error. I am sure for the series 2 model, the yellow wires with the stripes in them are the battery and ignition wires, and the ground is pretty easy to figure out.

If in doubt I recommend professional to fit, as its not that expensive + they also installed 4 speakers in doors, which also need to be fiddled with to fit into the door moulds.

Hope I helped (Probably don't make much sense at 1am)

Matt

Re: how do you install a different cd player?????

the easiest way is to buy an adapter plug for your brand of head unit. That way it plugs straight in, you dont have to run new wires for your speakers and it can be converted back to stock in 2 minutes. You dont have to cut wires and stuff up your chances of putting the stock unit back in if you want to sell the car or something.
Most good car audio shops will have a range of these adapters, if they dont have an x-trail one they should be able to order it in.

Re: how do you install a different cd player?????

i just changaed my headunit to a pioneer in dash tv/dvd player ( 18hours after i got the car! didnt even put a cd in the std one!!)

the wiring is easy, you just need a multimeter to find the power wires, then trial and eror to get the speakers right. all this took me an hour!

it was the easiest deck i have ever put in

ps, i didnt cut the plug off, i just spliced the wired and soldered to that, so it will be easy to put the std deck back in
