What would u get if you didnt have the xtrail?
Hey guys,
What else were you looking at prior to buying your xtrail, or what would you get if you couldnt get the xtrail again if finance was not an issue? Also what was the one thing that made you buy it?
If i didn't get the xtrail, then i would of gone a toyota kluger, only because of the engine. But i made the right choice, i bought the xtrail purerly on looks at first, then i found out just how good it was after purchasing it.
P.S. I would also opt for a Prado or one of those new Grand Cherokee's with the HEMI V8's.
Matt

Re: What would u get if you didnt have the xtrail?
On the day I bought my Exy, I left home with the sole intention of buying the brand-new 2.3L 4cyl Ford Escape (it was released that week.)
I spent about 15 mins crawling over/in/under one at my local Ford dealer but not one salesperson even looked in my direction.
I left and was heading to the next-closest Ford dealer when I passed the Nissan dealer. Salesman was friendly, not pushy and gave me a good deal. Reasons:
- I preferred a manual anyway
- More kit than the Escape
- Dad has had great run with his 88 Patrol
- They had a blue ST manual in stock
What else would I get? Hmmm -
- Forester? No, too small inside
- CR-V? No, I like going 4WDing
- Escape/Tribute? Maybe, but rear suspension looks vulnerable
- RAV4? Never really rated them, don't know why.
Anyway, Jalal and I are lining up for a 2005 Pathfinder in a couple of years, right mate?

Re: What would u get if you didnt have the xtrail?
I finally will be putting money down tomorrow morning for a twilight stx. If i wasnt getting a exy then it would have been a suzuki XL7 because of the low-range and sub 40k price tag.

Re: What would u get if you didnt have the xtrail?
Hi Matt,
This question was sort of discussed before
http://com1.runboard.com/baustralianxtrail.fmainchat.t3
Anyway, I didn't even know the xtrail existed when I went shopping for a 2nd hand Pathfinder, but my local dealer didn't have any, so he introduced me to the xtrail and I took both a new pathfinder and the exy for a test drive and there I was walking-out with a brand new exy (after 2 weeks of price negotiations though)
During the above 2 weeks, I also test drove, the Forester and CRV, but they just didn't feel close to the Pathfinder as the exy was and I felt the power of the exy to be excellent.
As Brenton said, my next car would be the 2005 Pathfinder OR newer version of the X-Trail if we get a different version with a V6

Re: What would u get if you didnt have the xtrail?
I had to make up my mind whether i needed a real 4wd or not. After owning two hi-lux real 4wd/s and getting a sore back on long trips, which i do once a month.I bent to peer group pressure and bought a exy, which is fine 95% of the time.I am a hunter and drive around swamps and at least once a fortnight do drive around in inclement conditions and do push the lock button in on the dash.I have found the exy a bit low to the ground on some occasions, but as far as parking and fuel consumption and ease of driving it around on normal roads plus a bit of gravel the exy is fine, and i have had no trouble at all in 40,000ks.I was looking at a Kia Sorento at the time, but changed my mind due to it being made in Korea and having a crappy suspension set up that i would have had to spend a couple thousand dollars to fix.The sorrento was in my price range and at times i still wonder if i have done the right thing buying the exy,but every body else likes the exy. What would i buy if i had plenty of money,a toyota Prada would be my choice.PS had a look at the tucson the other day, quite impressed by the price, had a talk to the salesman and asked how the exy was going (he sold the exy to me)and i said no trouble at all,he said i did the right thing as the sorrento/s are worth nothing at all as a trade in and hard to move second hand.Whew

Anyone know what I should do with the 1984 Camry with 6 months Rego. Drive good but is rusted. I am planning to drive it to the wrecker and see what they will say.
I'd suggest you try selling it to your your local smash repair shop or a mechanic, as you will get close to nothing at the wreckers, they will probably only pay for the engine and transmission parts.

Re: What would u get if you didnt have the xtrail?
I'm quite unusual as I have an X-Trail and a Toyota Kluger CV-X, and my previous car was a 2001 RAV4.
To be quite honest, when we bought the X-trail, we would have bought another RAV, but it couldn't take a baby-seat in baby mode. My RAV had done 145,000k's in 3.5 years, didn't miss a beat, was the cheapest car to service I had ever seen.
The Kluger is my new work car, I asked for a Territory but was knocked back as the car had to start with a "H" or a "T" to be eligible. It's an interesting car, absolute bucketloads of grunt but the 5 speed auto gearbox can't make up it's mind what gear to be in. Steering is not flash, it is old fashioned, but screwed together very nicely and very comfortable.
The X is the wife's car. We got it when the second bub came along. She chose it after testing driving it and the CRX, the thing that swayed us was the towing ability.
I must admit that even though the X doesnt have the grunt of the Kluger, I still sneak out in it on weekends as it is a nicer car to drive. It isn't that much smaller on the inside either.
Regards,
Legweak
