Re: UHF CB radios
Hi John,
Unfortunately I haven't used it much as planned due to our trip to Birdsville in July having to be cancelled.
I did test it on a trip to West Wyalong though (my car to his parked vehicle with mounted aerial) and optimistically started calling when I was about 30k's North. Around the 20k mark I did get some feedback, but it wasn't very clear and only for a short period of time. I eventually spoke with my mate when I was about 5k from his place and confirmed with him that he had heard me earlier. Unfortunately after the initial contact he had decided to have a few more sherbets, instead of monitoring his CB, so it was difficult to pin down a distance.
Knowing that he had heard me calling around 20k I'm pretty confident that travelling outback on the flat I could comfortably get a range of 15ks at least, which is more than enough for what I would be using it for.

FYI John, just reading a Repco brochure and they have
the Oricom pack on special again for $179, a saving of $90.

Re:
If it helps anyone, there's a tiny little European CB that fits in the driver cubby a treat:
Albrecht AE-6110
80 euro channels, 40 UK, 4 watt about £50 GBP, its the size of your palm. really good reviews. Bad point? mic is not replaceable its hardwired (but sure I could do it if needed). Channel up/down on mic so I can leave the cubby shut all the time, no need to look at it. I choose to fit the speaker to make it easier to hear when driving. Its not hardwired on my x so I can quickly move the CB between cars.

Re: UHF CB radios
The intended ban of existing 40-Channel UHF CB radios on 1st June 2017 has been reversed by the ACMA
For those of you still with 40-channel radios (like me) you won't have to upgrade now.
As a matter of interest, how many of you still have 40-channel radios ?
