posticon TX 3200 Installation

emoticon Has anyone installed a TX-3200 UHF into a series II any where other that the passenger side glove compartment?? If so any easy instructions.Have fitted UHF to the lower of the two flip pockets. The din adaptor replaced the pocket completely. Power was picked up from the cigarette lighter wiring. Microphone stored in the lower compartment with the sliding doors. I will provide pics when get time to pull dash apart again.

Re: TX 3200 Installation

If your xtrail is Ti Series II, you're limited with your options and you basically only 2 free slots where the CB radio can go.

1. Inside or in place of the flip pocket under the radio/cd head unit.

2. In the passenger side glovebox (as you already know) where this slot is reserved for a DVD player (Luxury pack xtrail)

If your question is more directed at how to get to the DIN pocket, then refer to THIS DIY Guide.

Re: TX 3200 Installation

Actually Jalal, there are two flip-door DIN pockets below the factory head unit in the Series 2 (ST model).

One is directly below the radio (as you mentioned) and the other is directly above the A/C controls. There is an unusable space between the two DIN pockets, of approximately the same height as a DIN pocket, but it is part of (or covered-over by) the radio trim surround, and therefore unusable/unremovable.

I know the Ti model has slightly different A/C controls (climate control) but I haven't had a good look at one to know if the layout of the centre dash is any different to the ST model.

I know that Rich, but in the absence of a more specific information from the new member about the type of xtrail in question, I thought I would mention the Ti which has only one flip pocket, unlike the ST which has 2 of them because the radio head unit only occupies 1 DIN instead of 2.

Re: TX 3200 Installation

That will make things easier for you Greg, as you will have two pockets to choose from.

I have seen the TX3200 fitted inside one of the flip-down pockets but the back of the pocket needed to be cut a bit to make room for the UHF to sit deep inside for the flip-cover to close.

Re: TX 3200 Installation

I have considered relocating my UHF to one of the DIN pockets in the centre of the dash because it's a long way for the microphone cord to reach across to the driver's side from the passenger's side glove compartment, and it's a pain having to reach over all the time to pick up the microphone (I haven't mounted the microphone mount anywhere as I didn't want to attach it to any exterior dash panels). The suggestion of mounting it deeper into the existing centre dash DIN pockets is a good idea, however, the microphone is not detachable. I guess it could be mounted so far back that the microphone can also fit inside the DIN pocket behind the flip-door (it would need to be checked to see if it actually fits in there first).

Re: TX 3200 Installation

It might not be a 3200 and it's not even fitted into a Series 2, but this is where I installed my unit. Nice and handy and out of the way.

Re: TX 3200 Installation

Brett, that's the 4400, which is similar to the 3200 except it's a full-DIN size, and has the speaker on the front panel (3200 has it facing downwards, underneath the unit). It appears the microphone is still not detachable with the 4400, either.

Rich if you slide the rubber gromet back there is usually an RJ45 style plug where you can disconnect the microphone

Cheers Phil
