Re: Key in ignition key beep disable - note

Hey guys:

Not completely sure at this stage BUT think the dome light came on when the key was turned off - not when it was extracted emoticon

Curiosity prompts me to re-connect the plug and find out for sure. I'll do it in the next day or so and report back....

Cheers

Re: Key in ignition key beep disable - note

Just checked mine (Series 1 ST): doors shut, light comes on when you remove the key. But then how often do you need that? It comes on again when you open the door. If you're sitting in the car with the door shut, you probably have the key in for the radio, or can switch on the reading light manually (but then this does involve lifting the arm above shoulder height!). I think I still vote for quiet when you open the door with the key in.

AAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!! Heavenly peace & quiet with my door open. Wish I had found out about this connector months ago. (I hadn't plucked up enough courage to cut door switch wiring.)
Now some tests.
The dome light comes on when you open a door & then goes out when you close the rear hatch or rear doors. It goes off after 30 seconds when the drivers door is closed (key in or key out).
It goes out when you lock the car before the 30 seconds is up or you turn the ignition on.
This is on my ST series II.
The headlight reminder beep still comes on, but that is OK by me.

As promised, I had another go at it.

Isn't it amazing how easy things are to do the second time around emoticon

I enabled the buzzer and found that the dome light comes on when one extracts the key, not before.

However, unlike David's Series 1 ST, the light does not come on when the buzzer is disabled.

To get rid of the annoying buzzer, I think it's a small price to pay. Additionally, I can turn the dome light on by the overhead console which is just above the rear view mirror.

My key-in buzzer shall remain disabled for ever and a day emoticon

Re: Key in ignition key beep disable - note

A big "THANKYOU" for this information.

I was sitting in the car today, with that bloody chime going off. I wanted the music on, but didn't want to have to turn the ignition the whole way on. So I say to myself, "surely there is a way to stop that." Home I come and research I do. And there it was, the topic I was after. Gotta love that 'SEARCH' icon.

 5 minutes later, job done.

Even the wife was impressed because it has been annoying her since we got it.

I've found a simple, non-destructive way of disabling the key-in-ignition beep - just unplug connector M9.

Ben:
Nice and simple, Thanks emoticon

Your service manual wouldn't happen to have a Nissan part number for those 2 (M9) Male & Female plug/connectors would it?

I'd like to run it via a switch without cutting the original wires for warranty/service reasons... I've been looking everywhere and have only managed to find a female plug/connector which is a perfect fit and has the same guage wire BUT lacks the lock-in clip assy (not important). For anyone interested, This particular female plug is part of a LED wiring/connector which can be found in any good "quality" PC case... As for the male plug/connector I've had zero luck.

Also, Does anyone know of any series 2 wrecking for parts in Sydney?

Re: Key in ignition key beep disable

Hello Guys, after reading all of the posts regarding this beep, and trying to access the images that are obviously links to diagrams, I have come up empty handed. The images lead me to a site called Image Shack in the USA, although there are no images to look at, even after filling out their subscriber page. Also the DIY page shows a 404 error message when I try to open it. Maybe I'm doing something wrong as I have only recently uploaded my Intro post??

Hi Pete,

Most of the links to the photos that are over 10 years old are not working any longer.

The DIY Guide for this modification can be found ]HERE
