posticon Key in ignition key beep disable - note

Hi All,

Re the article on how to disable the annoying beep when the key is in the ignition and the drivers door is open.

Please be aware that if you have a Ti and do the mod ( cut the wire on the drivers door switch) the beep stops but also the drivers door courtesy light stops working.

This appears to be the case with my Ti series 2.

So, has anyone else encountered this issue with their Ti, and if so how was it overcome ?

Cheers,
Craig

Re: Key in ignition key beep disable - note

There is a post in here somewhere that gives the details. Here - key in beep disable
It is more involved than just cutting one wire (that is why the light don't work)
You need to cut 2 of the three wires on the switch, reconnect one cut wire to the terminal on the switch where the other wire was cut. Leave the 2nd cut wire disconnected.
Read the above post for clearer details. emoticon

Thanks Dave.

Craig, please note that my initial DIY Guide was for series I (which doesn't have the courtesy door light) Hmmmm. another thing to look for at the wreckers LOL emoticon

I suggest you only cut the wires that I mentioned previously and leave the different colour wire going to the courtesy light un-touched.

When you finish this mod, I will update the DIY Guide to cover Series II as well.

Good luck.

Hi Jalal and Dave,

Thanks for your advice and I've now taken down details from Jalal's previous post / experiment.

I'll try doing this way and let you know the outcome.

Cheers,
Craig

Re: Key in ignition key beep disable - note

Hi Guys,

Well I tried re wiring as per Jalal's instructions but unfortunately did not work.
No matter which red wires I connect / disconnect to which switch terminal I am unable to get the drivers door courtesy light to work without the annoying beeping. Note I have not touched the black wire on the door switch, just the 2 red ones, and also tested configuration with the switch grounded via the mounting screw.

I did however pull apart the lower dash and found the source of the beep ( a big white box with 3 x wiring connectors right up under dash at fire wall)

So as it appears not possible to get the drivers door courtesy light working without the beep by rewiring the door switch I am thinking the best method would be to identify which wire at the above white box controls the beeper and cut it. Or worst case remove the white box, crack it open and sadistically destroy the beeper !!

Has anyone done this before and if so which wire ?
Or (Jalal)if you are able to supply me with wiring details for this " white beeper box" back to door switch and courtesy light, I will try and figure out how to disable.

Cheers,
Craig

No worries Craig, I'll try and get that diagram for you tonight if possible, but I would advise against cutting wires at that beeper box. You want to make sure that the operation is reversible come time to sell the car, so you may need to tap into the wiring of that box and fit a switch there to disconnect the beep when you don't want to hear it.

Re: Key in ignition key beep disable - note

Hi Jalal,

Thanks a lot for the diagrams. It looks like I should now be able to identify which wire to cut. And point taken re permanant disablement. I will take your advice and insert a switch that way the car can be put back to standard.

I should be able to give this a go over the weekend and will let you know how I go. I will also take some notes / pics to possibly help others contemplating this mod.

Also I contacted my local Nissan dealer re and they advised that it is not possible for the service techs to disable this annoying beep - stange. They also mentioned that they get heaps of complaints about the beep.

Cheers,
Craig

Yep, they won’t do it. I tried that as well, but when I did, they said they don't wanna know what I have done LOL

I have to remind everyone again that should you do this mod, you will do so at your own risk, as this the wiring of the car you're playing with and if not done correctly, it could affect something else. The main thing to watch out for, is that it doesn't disable your engine immobiliser while you do this mod.

Re: Key in ignition key beep disable - note

You'll probably find that the door circuit and the key in ignition circuit are used for other systems, so disconnecting one or the other will also disable the other systems.

From a brief look at the diagram, the Time Control Unit works out if the key is in the ignition and the door is open. Only way I can think of without losing other systems is to add another logic circuit in to the warning chime output. 3 inputs to the logic circuit, warning chime, door and ignition. If all of them are connected, then the chime output is disabled, if any of them are not connected then chime output is just passed through.

I hope this makes sense.... I need to sitdown and work out a circuit to do it though.
