First oil change

Hi Guys
My Xxy is nearing 5000km and im looking for a decent mineral oil to use.
The Genuine Nissan oil starts at 7.5w/30 viscosity but the lowest viscosity for branded oils are 10w/30 !\
What do you guys use or recommend?
Thanks

Re: First oil change

I'm also using a 5w/30 Castrol Edge full Synthetic. It does come at a premium price however is much better than standard mineral based oils.

If you decide to go full synthetic, being your first oil change, you won't need an oil flush.

Cheers

I want to refrain from using Synthetic till atleast 10 000km as I want the engine to be fully run in and Synthetics reduce friction to such a high level that it may not be too good on a new engine.
I know that tolerances in newer engines a tighter and they are run in within a 1000km but I am used to older cars so maybe im just being paranoid emoticon

Re: First oil change

With the way newer engines are built these days, they don't require any run-in at all.

I was driving my exy hard from day 1 when I got it and almost 4 years later now it is still the same powerful engine.

Having your new engine getting used to the Synthetic oil right from the start is much better than changing to it later down the track.

That is my 2 cents worth anyway and it is your call indeed.

Hi Rated X
I agree with you as this is what Ive always done but with one variation for the last two new cars Ive only gone to 5000k's before I put the Castrol Synthetic R oil in this is always a good thing to do there is a lot of evidence to support for this argument

Re: First oil change

Its called tafe, trades certificate engineers writtings, research and automotive knowledge. Matching the surfaces to each other in there initial stage of life and keeping them there with a synthetic oil for a better performing engine in the long run. Plus the almighty internet has a little bit on this subject

Re: First oil change

Fair enough Dave, I guess I have to dig-up this evidence myself the long way because this is the first I heard of it (no offense to you of course) emoticon

The trusty old Oil Bible should have something on this if at all.

(EDIT): What do you know? emoticon

My first search on the internet returned THIS !!

quote:

One of the myths surrounding synthetic oils is that new engines require a break-in period with conventional oil. The fact is, current engine manufacturing technology does not require this break-in period. As indicated by the decisions of the engineers who design the high-performance cars listed above, Mobil 1 can be used starting the day you drive the car off the showroom floor.

Re: First oil change

As others have done, I've used synthetic oil from the very first oil change and onward.

I use Mobil 1 (have for years in many vehicles). If I were to use a different oil, it would be Castrol - synthetic of course.

Go for the synthetic with your first change - your Xty will thank you for it emoticon
