I had the deck out of mine before it was 24 hours old emoticon

As Nath said, we think "practically" emoticon

Number of beers we can have Vs. time spent on this mod or doing other more critical ones LOL emoticon

I have no problems doing the wiring for the rest of the car, but not the head unit, I just hate it for some reason.

Re: Head Unit install

I would love nothing better than to get into it and strip it all out, that's the easy part. The problem comes about when I have to put it all back.

I did it once with my old Gemini with an easy stereo system and stuffed it up. The back only had 7 wires, 3 for power and 4 for the speakers and still managed to stuff it up. Never again! emoticon

Re: Head Unit install

I don't see why not Jamie. That is if you prefer to have a single DIN slot DVD player with a flip-up screen compared to the double DIN unit.

I personally chose the double-DIN cause I don't like anything blocking the dash dials, but even with a single DIN slot like this one, you can choose to have it positioned in the second pocket slot, rather than the top one.

One thing I must warn you about after using two of the EONON products (the in dash DVD player and the TV signal booster) which I bought from eBay as well.

You get what you pay for!! and this means exactly that in my case (i.e. crap and sub-standard el-cheapo products which you will throw away into the rubbish bin after a year or LESS)

I knew that when I was buying this stuff, as am not a "bass----head" LOL emoticon and only needed them because of the coming trip. I will not hesitate throwing them away straight after this trip, but you may do your own calculations to see if it'll be worth it for what and how long you wanna use them for.

Hmm, I would heed Jalal's advice here Jamie, although it seems to have a lot of really great features the component quality and build are likely to be very poor.

Regards a single DIN flip out screen, this actually works very well in a series II X-Trail, I have the Pioneer AVH-P5750DVD, just mounted it in the lower pocket position like this ...

Screen closed:

Screen Open:

It only blocks the flip fronted pocket which only houses my iPod anyway. I like the fact that when folded away the unit does not look like anything special, so hopefully an opportunistic thief won't be tempted!

This is exactly why I like it as well. I would put it in the same posi as you Adam. Not after anything super super quality, more for dazzle when (and if) I sell it.

Re: Head Unit install

I bought and installed a new head unit yesterday. It is a Sony CDXGT470U

I bought it because it has a USB and and auxilary input in the front.

The USB was the big thing for me because I can use a 160gig pocket hard drive and store all my music on it.

The auxiliary input is great to have as pretty much anything will connect to it.

It was $190 from Strathfield

I decided to do the install myself without a wiring harness adapter.

The install was a bit tricky but after a lot of wire testing and some of that heat shrink stuff I figured it all out

If I get a chance this evening I will take of the facia off again and label put up a post detailing which wire is which.

Basically what I did was use an AA battery to find out which were the speaker wires for where and then by process of elimination found the power wires.

One thing to note is that there are 2 connectors which come out of the existing head unit. The small 4 wire connector is for the rear right and left speakers

Hopefully I will get a chance to have a look tonight and map out exactly which wire is which.

Re: Head Unit install

Ok, well as promised I have attached below the head unit wiring diagram for the T30 series II.

I have used the wiring diagram which came with my new stereo which is a Sony.

The wire colours for the T30 SII are printed in red.

Jalal, not sure if this is the correct place for this post or if it should be in the DIY guides as the existing guide for the T30 Series II head unit install does not cover wiring

Maybe you could do what needs to be done if you want to put it in there
