Where to mount a rear view camera? ** Now with DIY Guide **
The Pioneer in-dash DVD player I have now has the ability to take a rear view camera input so I figure .. why not!!
I was thinking of fitting it into the fog light blanking plate, this would mean I can cut it and flush mount it and know that I can always remove it and replace the cover without having to patch the bumper.
Do you think that is sensible?
The alternatives I can think of are:
1. Inside the rear window
2. hanging under the rear bumper
The thought behind 1 is that it will not get dirty and if I place it at a point where the rear wiper clears the glass then it will always have a clear view even if it is raining. For 2, I think it might be too low.
Just thought I would run it past you guys and see what you think in case I have not thought of something obvious!

Re: Where to mount a rear view camera?
THIS is the unit I am thinking of getting ..
It is bigger than other cameras BUT it has the ability to provide a mirror image which is really important when the image on a screen that you look at facing forwards. In fact Pioneer recommend to only use cameras with a mirror feed. I have not found any others with this facility.
It is still not massive but too big to put where you suggest. Nice idea though.

Re: Where to mount a rear view camera?
Good point siukalo! I think the cameras I am looking at are around 92 degrees.
Do you have any details on the make/model of camera you have used? Can you get me a photo of how you mounted it?
Thanks!
