Should apply to any performance upgrade.

Yes, this part means you engine needs to be warm and not cold.

Canadas FarEast wrote:
"How to Reset/Reprogram your ECU - Series I" - you seem to have specified the
Series 1 - is there a reason for that or might the same process apply to other Series ?

This procedure may/should also work with Series II, however has only been tested with our Series I here, and appears to work.

Was also kinda "curious" about the "source" of this info. ??

The original source is copyright material. The procedure has been modified/adapted to suit our X-Trail, hence no need to quote the original author.

Also wondering if there would be a "record" of when the last ECU reset was done and if the dealer would have any issues with a vehicle which was still under warranty ??

Not sure about this, but you can ask your dealer.

No question is a dumb question

Thanks, Noel for the helpful reply.

I'll keep the instructions in mind for use at a later date.

Cheers

Re: How to Reset/Reprogram your ECU - Series I

Well guys,

I got back home yesterday from our lovely holiday in Tropical Cairns and have now reset the ECU as well.

Mine looked like it was set correctly already in terms of RPM (it was 900rpm before the reset) so no noticeable change there has taken place after the rest and it stayed the same.

I will now monitor my fuel consumption.

I'm also taking my exy for the 50K service this week and I would be interested to see if the dealer would notice the ECU reset or not.

Re: How to Reset/Reprogram your ECU - Series I

Hi all,

With this reset, is it advisable to turn the aircon off when you are doing the restart, as i have just done this and it looks like it has dropped the rpm down to 800?

any help

Yes, all lights, accessories and air-con needs to be turned off for a more accurate reset.

Try it again with the aircon switched off and it should bring the rpm up to 900.

Did the reset yesterday. Was the exxy running better or was this wishful thinking? Don't know, but got the best economy I'd had for quite a while (admittedly mainly freeway driving - need a bit longer to check that out) [sign in to see URL] l/100. David M

Re: How to Reset/Reprogram your ECU - Series I

Hi Guys,

Well, today I had to re-fuel after getting [sign in to see URL] out my tank before the warning light came on.

I put in [sign in to see URL] of fuel, which translates to a fuel consumption of [sign in to see URL] emoticon

I've been running on Shell Optimax in this tank.

What can I say? whatever Noel has posted here has obviously worked, because my FC before re-setting the ECU was 12LT/100kms in the same driving conditions and the same type of fuel.

Good find Noel and well done for sharing this information.

I look forward to the next fill-up and also some highway driving readings.

Re: How to Reset/Reprogram your ECU - Series I

Jalal,

Am glad it seems to have worked for you. Mine also seems to have improved slightly as well.

Personally I'm considering doing another reset of the ECU and using the BP Ultimate (98 RON) for a while. And people please don't shoot me down in flames about the BP Ultimate. I've tried it once and didn't notice any excessive knocking in my engine. Perhaps it was because going from 95 RON to 98 RON doesn't have as much effect than changing from 91 RON to 98 RON.

BP is the only supplier of 98 RON fuels here in the far north, and I don't have any other choice. emoticon. I would have preferred to be trying the new 100 RON fuels instead. emoticon

Hi All,
I just "did it" also, AND the car restarted!

Idle speed is down a little.

No road test results yet.

Re: How to Reset/Reprogram your ECU - Series I

Just completed my second tank since the ECU reset. Only able to use (afford) normal Shell unleaded due the premium being upwards of $[sign in to see URL] out here.

 450kms on 49litres.

This has been around town driving, so I'm still very impressed.

Has anyone tried 'ethanol' fuel in the exee yet.
