Advice on Engine Power ?

I am looking at purchasing an Xtrail TI Automatic and was wondering how the 4 cylinder travels with a full load, a/c cranking going up steep hills on the freeway. Is there much power or is it foot to the floor driving. Please advise.

Re: Advice on power ?

sonofsam6, I have an ST series 1 auto; I replaced the air filter with a K&N one, and use premium fuel: (both these made a subjectively judged improvement in the power/feel/gear holding and the premium makes a measurable improvement in fuel economy - making it cheaper than plain unleaded for me). I reckon its got plenty of power after coming from a commondore - haven't pulled a caravan but there's discussion of that somewhere else on this forum. I often take the box trailer on a trip up and down the Calder or across the city with reasonable loads, and its quite happy cruising at 100. Don't think I've ever had to floor it and grit my teeth.

Re: Advice on power ?

Welcome to the forums sonofsam6 (name pls.?)

I guess the question would be, what do you exactly plan to tow in the xtrail and how heavy do you expect the load to be?

If towing capability is what you're after, the there are 3 existing threads which can give you more details specifically about that and they can be found HERE (just enter the word "towing" in that field)

Enjoy your stay in the forum and let us know how you go with buying one.

P.S. I'll be moving this thread to the Q&A section, as this is where similar questions have been asked.

Re: Advice on Engine Power ?

dont know how the auto goes but the manual i have easily tows my boat ( 650kg ) like its not there, the most i have towed was an ef falcon on a car trailer (poorly loaded but thats another story) at 50kph for over 100km with no visible sign of the coolant temp moving of its normal position, note that it was towed in 'auto'mode but it lacked no power what so ever
