Interior Plastic scratches

Hello folks, new to the forum & need some feedback regarding the interior plastic dash. Having seen a few X-Trails in dealer's yards, the plastic finish seems to be easily marked- I talked to a salesman who stated that they could be removed fairly easily. emoticon emoticon

I wanted some impartial advice as I am about to buy a second-hand series II ST from a private seller, which has some minor marks and wondered if there really is any way of removing mild scratches etc.

Also, I've noticed that in some older cars, the plastic surrounding the door handles can fade considerably (presumably when exposed to sun over a period of time)- any tips to stop the fade?

Cheers.

Re: Interior Plastic scratches

Hi Johnny and welcome to the forums

Image emoticon

The poor or easily scratcheable interior of the xtrail is something all of us complain about and this on world-wide scale.

I do not know of any "easy fixes" for this and would be interested in finding-out the details myself, as my interior got a bit of scratches as well.

I know a Canadian xtrailer who had this very issue with his 1 week old exy and the dealer ended-up replacing the plastic door trims for him under warranty, because they couldn't get the scratches off.

I have tried rubbing it off with oil, but to no avail. emoticon

I've had my exy for over 2 years now and I have not noticed any signs of fade, even though I do park it under direct sunlight during the day.

I bought the dash matt to provide a bit more protection to the particular area that gets quite hot and to avoid any potential cracks that may appear with time.

It would be great if you can ask the salesman you spoke to about the method they were planning to use to remove the scratches as this would help many in the forum with the same problem.

P.S. I'll be moving this question to the Q&A section of the forum along with other interesting questions that have been asked before.

Please keep us updated on your xtrail purchase.

Johnny,

Every vehicle on the market has its faults, and this is perhaps one against the X-trail.

Don't let this put you off thought, the X-trail has many other features that stand out from the competition.

I would buy another X-trail tommorrow if I had to, it's an awesome vehicle.

Cheers

Re: Interior Plastic scratches

Thanks guys... I'll make sure to get the 'details' from the salesman (Brighton Nissan, VIC). Incidentally, looking to buy a black (I know...) Dec 2003 series II ST X-trail with 22,000 kms on the clock from a private seller. They're selling as they've just had twins (on top of another kid), and have a few minor extras like cargo cover, scuff plates & a warranty until Dec 2008. All for $26k. Sounds fair to me- any thoughts??? Car's in excellent condition.

Re: Interior Plastic scratches

Hi Johny,

There is nothing wrong with black, I have one emoticon

The $26,000 is a very good price for such a low KM car and it's a series II as well, however that depends if it's Auto or Manual.

If it's Manual, then I think that's $1000 less than the average price (although the average km's for this year model is 45,000km's)

Price obtained from Red Book

Auto average price (private sale that is) for this car is $29,000 max.

As detailed HERE

So in summary I think you scored a good deal.

Look forward to catching up with some Vic folk & some good trips up North...

Go well.... emoticon

Re: Interior Plastic scratches

Hell... I'm a 'Euro'.. back in Scotland we'd never use anything less than a manual- auto's are for the seriously medicated/ lazy/ housewive's. You only have control with a manual.

Hope that doesn't offend anyone. emoticon
