HEADLIGHTS

Can anyone tell me what the bump on top of the headlights are used for?

Re: HEADLIGHTS

Hi Dave,

These are used as car edge markers, so you can see the end of your bonnet when parking.

They're also a good indicator to use for tyre placement when off-road.

Not sure about the Japanese X-Trails, but I think they're linked to the headlight and light is actually coming through them at night, ours seem to be blocked.

Re: HEADLIGHTS

Thanks Jalal

My wifes fasther asked me what they were and i had not even noticed them before.

The manual mentions something about the seeing if the lights are working indicator.

Yep, that too, although how can we tell if the light is not coming through them? This proves even more that they're linked to the headlight in the overseas/Japanese model.

I think it's about time I dismanltled my headlight to have a look emoticon

Re: Headlights (removal)

Hi everybody,

I am the happy owner of an April build, 2010 series 2 X-Trail.

I apologise if I have the wrong thread here, but I don't know where to put this.
It relates to headlight removal - not the headlights themselves.

I found it downright ludicrous that to remove a headlight assembly (according to the manual), one must remove the following:
The grille (EXT-18 in the manual), a wheel, the mud flap, the fillet moulding (EXT-24), the fender protector (EXT-21), the engine undercover(EXT-23) and the whole front bumper (EXT-12).

After the inner guard (fender protector) is removed, the airbox/water collector on the LHS has to be removed.

All the clips/screws/pawls can be removed to this point.
However, up high, tucked up in a never-to-be-got-at-spot where the front bumper and the mudguard join, there are two hex head screws on both sides (Item 2 - Bumper side bracket - EXT-12). Space is very limited and the screw heads are recessed.
A regular socket (10mm?) and driver will not get into the space.
A normal ring spanner or an open-ender wont do the job either.

Does anyone know of a tool that can access these screws or, better yet, does anyone know a short-cut way to remove a headlight instead of going through the rigmarole mentioned above?

Jalal, may I suggest a new heading in the main index relating body panels?

Best wishes to all X-Trailers for 2015.

Rogan
