Re: GPS navigation

UPDATE:
Samir from Garmin support just called me. He enabled a Map Update [sign in to see URL] for me on the Zumo 660, that apparently had 'No map updates available' previously.

The difference I can see in Base Camp, is this map is labelled ">HERE", rather than the Navteq sourced product. Samir explained ">HERE" is the new name for WhereIS / Sensis / Telstra maps.
--Log in or sign up to see linked image content--

I have a suspicion Samir enabled the 'International' Aust/NZ DVD/Download ($189) product for my unit.

So I am not getting my email confirming "No Map Updates Available" so I can't take any court action. And they have "fixed" the issue for me, meaning at the moment I have no issue to complain about. Let's see what happens as we go forward.

I have asked for a trade-in price for a Zumo 595LM ('Lifetime maps') if they cannot guarantee map updates for the Zumo 660. Samir promised to get back to me.

Re: GPS navigation

Last night I fired off another online email on the Garmin Support web page. In my email I stated that I have not heard back from them regarding my previous email of 7 February. I restated my issue and advised that I was not happy with the lack of response to date.
I did not mention feedback from other forum members (Wiz Au) that Garmin had supposedly advised that some models were no longer compatible with the maps from their change of map suppliers.

My next course of action is to ring them again and demand an explanation.

stay tuned.

Re: GPS navigation

If it helps, I spoke to 'Kristina' first, then 'Samantha', and instead of an email, 'Samir' called me back and he was able to actually 'do something'. Neither Kristen or Samantha could 'do' anything.

Re: GPS navigation

Thanks for the contact names Wiz Au. I will call Friday (busy for today and tomorrow).
Just maybe I will have an email response from them by then so that I can refer to. I put my mobile contact number on the last online email to them and invited them to call me if they preferred rather than [sign in to see URL] won't hold my breath..........

cheers all

Re: GPS navigation

Still haven't heard back from Garmin BUT this morning before I left home I plugged my nuvi into my laptop and opened Garmin express. Voila, a map update is available and would take about 18 minutes. I didn't have time so this evening I will attempt download and find out what version has been downloaded. Fingers crossed.

Stay tuned and cheers

Re: GPS navigation

UPDATE.

So I have now updated my maps to [sign in to see URL].
I don't know whether the update became available because of the emails I sent via Garmin Support online email asking why others had later map versions than mine OR whether the update would have been available at this time for my particular device in the normal course of events.

I have still had no actual response from Garmin to either of my email queries so tomorrow I might simply send another online Garmin Support email advising that an update has now been performed and thanks.

Anyway, thank you for the input from others re my post.

cheers

Re:

Hi All,

Both my Nuvi 765 and Zumo 550 have the [sign in to see URL] map update and I have also downloaded it for use in Basecamp. I never have a problem getting map updates for them

Cheers

John

Re: GPS navigation

Great to hear you have had no update problems John.
Although I probably won't hear back from Garmin Support I sent off another email advising that I now had the update and hope that future updates will not cause me any problems when they become available.

My wife and I are travelling out west (Ayers Rock, Alice Springs etc) later this year and I hope to have the latest available maps when we go.

cheers

Garmin Lifetime maps

G'day Guys,

Latest maps for those with Garmin Lifetime Map Updates, version [sign in to see URL], is now available from the Garmin Express website.

But, reading the previous posts, I'll be interested to see how we all go.
