The problem with disconnecting sway bars and 4wding without them connected is that the angle of the CV joints at full extension could then be too great and cause damage. The spring may also come off its mounting pad and not settle back into its correct position as it is not fixed into position but rather only kept inplace by its compression between the top and bottom mounts.
I would suggest that could also be something you need to lookout for in your car.

I'm guessing then that you would also be buying Xtrail springs to suit the struts ?
Have you compared the weights of the 2 vehicles to see if the Xtrail springs would be too stiff for your car ?
Other than that, have you checked if your car's springs will fit into the Xtrail struts ?
