T31 LHS Headlight Low Beam Not Working

After replacing the blown LHS low beam headlight globe last week (the filament was blown), all the lights were working. Yesterday I noticed the LHS low beam was out again, so I checked the filament and it was ok, and it worked on the bench from a 12v power source. I tried 3 other globes in the connector plug and although the globes are good, they didn't work either. This was with the headlight switch on and the RHS low beam was working. I'm getting over 12v with a multimeter at the headlight plug and it also has earth at the earth wire at the plug. I'm checking the plug power wire to earth that shows over 12v, the earth wire to a body earth which is showing continuity and the power wire through the multimeter to the earth wire on the plug showing 12v. All the fuses are ok in all three fuse boxes, but that shouldn't be an issue as I'm getting 12v at the plug. The plug contacts are good and are definitely making contact with the the globe contacts. With a new and working globe, 12v and an earth at the plug it should light up, but its not. Any ideas?
Thanks

Hi Kev,
Thanks for your reply. No, they are Philips H11 Crystal Vision Halogen globes. Basically standard issue.

Re: T31 LHS Headlight Low Beam Not Working

From all your tests then yes it should be working.
The only suggestion I have is to swap bulbs between LHS and RHS to see if the problem moves with the bulb. If it does then it is an intermittent faulty connection inside the globe between tab and filament otherwise if it doesn't then it is an intermittent faulty connection between the loom wiring and the plug connectors.

Re: T31 LHS Headlight Low Beam Not Working

Hi Kev,
When I swapped the globes over this afternoon, the LHS globe worked in the RHS plug, but the RHS globe didn't work in the LHS plug. So, with the multimeter hooked up to the LHS plug, it measured 12.69v. As soon as I connected an old globe with a wire on each terminal and touched them to the neg and pos multimeter leads on the plug, the voltage read 0v. I guess it was reading a 'no load' surface voltage at the plug. As soon as the globe tried to light up (but didn't), it supplied the load and the voltage went to 0v. The problem I found was not the plug at the globe, but instead it was a bad connection at the next one in line. It's a 4 wire grey plug that is found beneath and beside the air intake pipe and the LHS headlight. It is visible under the bonnet without removing the air intake. I disconnected the plug and cleaned it and sprayed a silicone spray in there and now it's working again. Once again Kev, you're right on. It was a bad connection in the plug connectors.
Thanks for your help..Cheers.
