Re: T31 lower control arm bushes.

I was aware of the fact that the steering may need an alignment, but my car still steers perfectly. I've reached 172,000k's and my car has NEVER had a wheel alignment. I'm on my 3rd set of ST20s and average between 75,000 and 85,000k's per set. The car doesn't wander or pull to one side, doesn't scrub or feather the tyres and the tyres are wearing great. I check the tyres for correct air pressure and any irregular wear often, and rotate them every 5,000k's.

Re:

Hi Guys,

My wife's Exy is in need of replacing the lower control arms and bushes and also the rear engine mount.

Does Pedders Suspension do this replacement or should I order the lower control arms myself and take the parts to Pedders?

Re: T31 lower control arm bushes.

I'm not sure about the engine mount, but I've taken my other cars stub axle's with the press in ball joint to Pedders, and they replaced the joints for a small cost. You'll find that the small rubber mount in the control arm and the ball joint should be ok if you've driven mainly on the road. If I was to do them again, I would buy Nolathane mounts and ask them to press them in. Get them to check the ball joints and the other mount while its apart, but I've given mine a hard time and they were fine. Having bought replacement control arms online, I'm not sure of the quality of the rear rubber mount.

Re:

Hi all,

Not sure if this thread is still monitored.

I'm now experiencing the same wobble at take-off. 196kms, new front passenger CV joint, front discs and pads, CVT serviced. Previous owner replaced N/S and O/S lower control arms were replaced early this year.

What's the likelihood it could be the bushes or something else.

Appreciate the feedback.

Re: T31 lower control arm bushes.

Hi all
Do the following symptoms suggest problems with control arm on rear suspension?

Symptoms =
Rattling sound from rear right suspension when going over big bumps.
Uneven wear on front tyres esp front left.
No handling problems: car runs smooth and straight. No problems cornering.

I see from previous threads that I should lift rear of car and check for play in control arms around the bushes.

Reason I think it's the lower rear control arms is that I found buried in the car's service history (I'm third owner) a note on the bottom of an invoice that they needed to be monitored for wear.

If this is the lower control arms:

1. Get a mechanic to do the work: can someone suggest a good independent suspension specialist? I'm in Hackney, Adelaide and...
2. Any experience with John Moyle Motor Engineering in Enfield? Just had a look online and their details came up.
3. How difficult is it to do it yourself? Anything I should be aware of? I'm competent enough with a wrench to do oil changes but never attempted suspension work.
4. Where online can I get the replacement lower control arms and how do I ensure that I get the right parts?
Thanks

Re: T31 lower control arm bushes.

I have done the full suspension on my T30 and the rear with trailing arm and 2x parallel arms was very simple to do. Not sure if the T31 is the same configuration.

Parts were simple enough to get. I got complete arms with bushes but you can also get bushes on their own but usually a bit difficult to remove the old ones from the arms.
