Re: replaced o2 sensors

How much oil is it using between services ?
Once our engines get over the 150k mark, it needs a slightly thicker oil like 5W40 or 10W50 instead of the usual 5W30. I did this and it stopped my oil consumption of about 1L between services.

Also have you had your engine mounts checked, especially the rear one ? These also wear out and can cause engine movement which would feel like a rough idle.

Re:

I have been quoted $3,600 to have a local wrecker swap it over for a 2nd hand unit with 160,000km on it (a waste of money I would think) or $5,500 to have a reputable mechanic swap if over for a fully reconditioned engine, water pump etc... this sounds too expensive. It is hard to know what is the sensible option. If I could do a rebuild for around $2,000 I would go for that.... Calling all mechanics PLEASE

Re:

our 300k exie probably consumes 2 litres of oil in between 10,000 k services. which is a lot less oil than I use bourbon! and cheaper too!

It's gone deathly silent. Is anyone aware of a rebuild closer to 2 grand than 5 1/2?

Re:

Mate, all you can do is call around. You would be able to import an engine for that much. Check and call Just Jap in Sydney.

Re: replaced o2 sensors

If you have a good mechanic, a full rebuild kit from the US for our QR is about $500+$350 shipping. This includes the lot.

I am in Brazil and have a 2007/8 X-Trail GX 2-5 QR25De petrol engine. Can anyone tell me, or better send a photo, showing where the LOWER / DOWNSTREAM Oxygen (O2) sensor is located. I've already located and replaced the upper / upstream one, which is visible at the front of the engine.

Re: replaced o2 sensors

According to the service manual the sensors are before and after the main cat converter.

Re: Replaced O2 sensorS

Hi REVHEAD KEV, Many thanks for your reply. I believe that the O2 sensor accessible via a curved cutaway on the right, half way down the outlet manifold heat shield is the fuel-air one before the bulge of THE ("main"?) catalytic converter. However, I cannot see any secondary catalytic converter with a downstream or lower O2 sensor fitted after it. Could you please tell me where the latter 2 parts are located on your X-Trail ?
