posticon Swapping instrument cluster from 2012 to 2008 X-Trail T31 completed!! And it is plug and play

Many years ago, some readers of this forum were asking (http://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/t128554) if a swap of instrument cluster between X-Trail T31 MkII and T31 ΜκIII was possible. The answer then was NO.

However since this morning my 2009 T31 enjoys a full working instrument cluster form the facelift X-Trail (2011-2014) and I wanted to share the news and pics with you.

With a conversion plug I found after endless searching and received by courier, the swap was completed in 5 minutes (plug and play conversion) and the results are fantastic.

Moreover, in my 2009 T31 X-Trail with the new instrument cluster, I have got new functions from the cluster which obviously the car supported from the beginning but not the old orange circle cluster:

1. Reading of instant consumption
2. Visible reading for open doors or trunk, detailed to each and every door!
3. Light dimming and automatic dim when day and going through tunnels
4. Language change
5. Units change

Here is the whole swap and the end result

So Chris, are you also going to share details of the "magic plug" you found to make this work ?

As you are in Greece, there may be a chance that there is something your version of the ECU or cluster gauge for the T31s that makes this work which is different from the versions we have here. We found this with the T30s in the UK which all have the traction control function in their ABS/4WD modules which we didn't get here in Australia until the T31s were released.

Sorry for repeating the answer to quote level. I did so the Kev gets an alarm in his email:

Kev I found this plug after seeing a video of the swap on YouTube. I don't know if I am allowed to name the company. I hope yes. It is called xanavi.ru. The have a site in Russian but also in English where they describe everything they can do in our cars.
They were very helpful.
As for the type of cluster I removed from my 2009 t31 I can upload a picture of it with all its stickers if it helps.
The guys at Xanavi told me everything would work with new cluster except the open door alarm which would just show the driver door open regardlessly of which door was open. I was very happy to find out that in my car the visible reading showed every door independently. I don't know what triggered this.
Hope this helps.
Chris

Re:

I realise this thread is getting old now ..but what a GREAT mod!

one important question tho ...what happens with the odometer? ... is total mileage stored elsewhere on the car.. so the new cluster displays correctly ? ....or is it stored in the cluster ..and therefore gonna be wrong..

Re: Re:

The odometer needs to be adjusted as the km/ml count is registered in it. Easy job though. When I went ahead with the mod I filmed all the procedure from taking out the old cluster to altering the mileage and installing the new one so that I’d I sell the car there would be no questions from the buyer. A correctly kept Service book is equal proof though.
Cheers

Re: Re:

The way I did it was to buy a cluster from a Nissan braker (80$) and then I contacted a team named xanavi.ru and they prepared the adapter plug for me. Then it was very easy. Two screws to remove the old cluster, put the new one in and all was working.

Graham was referring to the procedure to change the odometer reading on the replacement cluster to match the original cluster reading.

Re:

..precisely... :/

the physically process of changing the cluster in a T31 is easy ... as is getting hold of the adaptor from Russia.

But the odometer issue is important ... so..Dascovar ..what is the procedure for doing that???
