My T32 TL had an catastrophic alternator failure, which almost resulted in an engine fire. I started the car and it was making a strange whirring noise. After travelling about 500 metres I was presented with a dashboard full of warning lights. I pulled over as soon as it was safe to do so, turn the motor off and popped the bonnet. When I opened the bonnet, smoke was pouring out of the alternator, which was glowing red. I think if I had driven a few seconds more, it would have been fully on fire.
Got a tow to the local Nissan dealer, they confirmed the alternator failure and I am now waiting for it to be replaced. This is the first time the TL has let me down. The annoying thing is it had its 120,000 km service 3 weeks ago.
Re: Just been advised that there are no alternators left in Nissan Australia's spare parts cupboard. Have to wait 3 weeks to get the new alternator from overseas.
Re: I got some good news today. I had written to Nissan Australia requesting assistance with the repairs to the TL. They rang me this morning and advised they are going to get my Nissan dealer to submit a goodwill payment request (it must come from the dealer) My Nissan dealer submitted the goodwill payment request to Nissan Australia and Nissan Australia has agreed to pay a great percentage of the repair bill (which was $2300). I am extremely happy with my Nissan dealer and Nissan Australia.
Re: Had my TL back for a week now and it is running like a dream. It only ended up costing me $913, after Nissan agreed to pay half. I was only charged for half the cost of the parts, no labour was charged. I was so happy with the service provided by the Nissan Dealer and Nissan Australia.
