Caves - to - Caves
Another C2C to notch up. Nothing a stock exxy can't do in the dry / semi wet.
I was on crappy OEM tyres that I found in the garage (getting BFG AT KO soon). Didn't even bother with bash plates I took off for the 100,000km service.
Here are some photos - we went from the Wombeyan Caves through to Mt Werong via the super hwy trail known as Ridge Firetrail (I would love to take my Swift Sport on this track), then onto the Coolong/Oberon stock track (even more super hwy trail - think 100km/h), onto Banshea and Kowmung Firetrails (picking up some timber onto my roof in the state forest) arriving for lunch 2.5 hours after leaving Wombeyan at the Kowmung River.
As always, the entry/exit on the Wombeyan side of the Kowmung River was crappy and washed out but the river was low so no issues. Had lunch further down, and we had a swim (I only got waist deep)
After a slight detour via Morong Firetrail and the Boyd River crossing, we got to our camp on Boyd River on the Kanagra Walls Road (same place as the last x-trail meetup). @ 1200metres, it was a chilly night, but it didn't rain like last time!
On the way home, my car suffered a turbo failure, and was limped to the dealer in Goulburn. I travelled back in my mates BT-50 and will deal with it in Goulburn on Monday morning.

Re: Caves - to - Caves
Finally did the Caves to Caves track both ways, starting at Wombeyan then to Jenolan and then back to Wombeyan to camp for the night. Its trek 19 from the "4WD Treks Close To Sydney" book and it's a great track to do. Allow around 6-7 hrs to go both ways with short stops here and there, and to allow the brakes to cool before crossing the low river/creeks. I have standard tyres with the pressures lowered to 28 psi on a standard Xtrail with a stone guard and it handled it nicely. I personally wouldn't attempt this track in the wet with standard tyres as there are some steep inclines/declines. I left the 4WD switch in Auto mode. A few things to watch out for, careful wheel placement on the Wombeyan side exit of Kowmung river, and as with any track, potholes that are hard to see in the shade, rocks on the track that will puncture the tyre sidewalls and the many kangaroos and wombats that decide to cross as your approaching.

Re: Caves - to - Caves
Well done Eric.
Yes there are many trips in that book easily done solo in an Xtrail. One I can suggest is the Wiseman's Ferry to Putty Rd trip. Aboriginal rock carvings, convict relics, historic graveyard and great scenery. Took most of a full day from home and back again with a picnic lunch stop in the middle.
