What are your suggestions for a 225/60R17 tyre for 90% on road and 10% off road

After having driven 13,000 km on a set, I've been very happy with the Continental Sports Contact 5 SUV tyres.

They are very quiet and the grip is exceptional both in wet and dry.

For best driver feel and lower rolling resistance, the ideal pressure for my purposes is 40 psi front and 38 psi rear.

An update for anyone looking for A/T tyres, the Toyo Open Country A/T 235/70 R16 tyres I had fitted nearly 2 years ago are still great, fantastic off road, great on the road and very little noise. 50000km in 22 month approx and still over 50 percent tread. I'll probably still get new ones at 80k, but so happy with them. Very minor scrubbing only at full lock going over bumps but not enough to cause any wear at all on anything. Spare fits in the back no dramas with some of the foam removed. Definitely will go Toyo again.

Hi Gang,
What are your suggestions for a 225/60R17 tyre for 90% on road and 10% off road with no 'real' 4x4ing involved. My stock Dunlop ST20's are hard and show signs of age and they are super noisy!

I know its a tad late, but for anyone with the same question.

I have literally just purchased as set of ContiSportContact™ 5 SUV Tyres from Jax, being fitted tomorrow along with a wheel alignment.

54,000kms out of the Dunlop SP20's and they are cactus, so needed to put something reasonable on it as im looking at a possible trade in.

Dogtrail has had his on for a while now and my impressions of these tyres would be similar to him from what i have seen and expect from them. Also recommend 36psi for all round use.

For $175 each fitted, including $100 cashback, (wheel alignment extra) it was hard to go past. They also include free rotation for the life of the tyre.

Did consider the Bridgstone Dueler AT697 all up would have been an extra $100 or so on top of what i paid, not worth it in my case.

Ended-up ordering a set of the Pirelli Scorpion Verde tyres for my Red Bull in their new 225/55R18 size, as they didn't have this size before.

$245/corner fitted & balanced.

Will let you know how they go when they go on the car next week.

WOW. I just decided to look for my old post when I had these tyres fitted, as am due for a new set now emoticon

4 years to the dot they have lasted me and over 45,000kms for all 4 tyres. Not bad I say, not bad at all.

The best thing is this exact tyre model is now even cheaper at around $165/tyre emoticon

Going to order another set tomorrow.

Re: Replacement Tyres

My 235/70 R16 Toyo Open Country AT are now at about 105,000km after about 4 years and still probably 10,000km of tread. I think they are amazing and will be getting the A/T II version. I've never babied them, have done a few long distance runs on them (3x trips to Karratha at 3500km each time, Exmouth, Coral Bay, etc etc) as well as offroad.

Hi all, I guess this has been asked a million times. I’ve got a 2012 Ti and need new tyres - it’s the wife’s car and doesn’t do huge numbers so just need something not too flash. Was hoping to spend under $200 per tyre. Any recommendations or deals going at the moment? I’m in Hawthorn VIC. Cheers

Just an update...got a quote for Dunlop PT3. 4 tyres and alignment for $750. My question - is that a reasonable price and are the tyres OK?

Cheers

Re: Replacement Tyres

I'm just about to get 4 tyres and I'm going with standard Dunlop ST20 Grandtrek again. I was thinking about the PT3's but the ST20's have been great. This will be my third set. The first set gave me around 75,000 ks, this current set is on 81,000ks. They're a good all rounder on the sand, dirt trails and snow, and great on the road at around $205 each if you shop around.

Finally hit the 100k on the Cooper CS5 tyres this week.
still going strong, passed rego without comment.

Still holding on nice and running well.

The Exy is quite good on tyres, dont seem to scrub them at all.
I have them rotated every 10k and checked by the tyre place.
Never have to add air.

Ill give them another 20-30k and then probably replace them with the same.

Prior to the coopers I have never achieved better than 65k on any tyre I have ever bought
on the old Civic I went through tyres every 40k and the Aurion was a real tyre chewer best was 40k, worst was 30k driving around Sydney.

Ill post a picture of the tyres when i work out how.
