USB wiring to radio

Hi All,

I am wondering if anyone can assist.

We have had our 2013 T31 X Trail for seveeal months and it came with a DNA Designer head unit. The unit was fitted to provide a reversing camera. It also came with a GPS system which was a bonus. This unit caters for 3 USB inputs

I have since noticed that the USB port in the centre console does not seem to have any power or connection to the head unit. Inspecting the head unit I found a USB cable coming out of the rear of the unit, but no corresponding connector from the car's harness. I have had a look at the original radio and it did not have a USB plug. There was an unconnected plug from the car's harness which matches up with the original radio with 4 wires.

Would anyone have a wiring diagram of the radio connectors to USB sockets? I have had a look online and there does not seem to be a ISO plug to USB adaptor available.

Any help would be appreciated!

Re: USB wiring to radio

If you were handy with a multimeter, you could work it out. USB only has 4 wires, +5v, Data+, Data-, Gnd. Google USB pinouts to show you how a USB 'A' socket is wired. Trace the 4 wires from the socket to the radio plug, and you'll be able to make up an adapter cable, or change the Nissan plug for a USB plug, cut from a cheap cable.

Re: USB wiring to radio

Hi Guys,

I know I am replying to an old thread (again) but this is stuff that I am right in the middle of and I wanted to share what I know, it might not help Glen but it might be useful to someone.

I just installed a Pioneer MVHZ5050BT double DIN unit which is nice, so far the easiest way I can see to get the USB and 3.5mm Jack which are in the centre console connected is to use the Aerpro adapter APNIUSB1, it does not state X-Trail specifically but more of a generic Nissan thing, the grey connector on the adapter matches the grey connector that is unplugged from the OEM HU that is normally not used when upgrading the HU (this is the USB one that Wiz mentions).

I have ordered this online and should have it next week, I will either let everyone know that it works next week or post a picture of my X-Trail on fire because I connected up random stuff to it, LOL, oh yeah fuses.

Cheers

Wondering if that adapter for the use / aux works so you can use the sockets in the centre console with an aftermarket head unit,

Re: USB wiring to radio

Hi all,

Shane P is correct on the part number for the USB to stock connector.

I have been using one in my car for some time and it works a treat.

The only issue i have with this adapter is that it will not allow my android auto connection to work.
for this i need to use a direct to stereo adapter.

hope this helps
Tom
