Re: Power Steering Flush

Mate, it's a high pressure hydraulic system that's critical for you to safely steer the car. Some bits are fine for the home handyman but when it comes to safety critical systems like steering and brakes, it's better left to the experts. My opinion only, but I'd let the dealer do it. You don't want that sort of thing messed up.

Re: Power Steering Flush

Disclaimer: I'm not familiar with T30 power steering so take the following as info for you to verify.

On my Holdens all you did was disconnect a hose at the lower end of the system (ie at the rack - where it is lowest) and let the fluid run out - reconnect the hose and fill up the reservoir. Put the lid on the reservoir and start the engine, refill the reservoir till it is at correct level.

The system only pressurised when the motor ran. Don't ever disconnect a hose with the motor running as you'll have fluid sprayed everywhere. I used regular Auto Transmission fluid.

You can also (with the engine off) disconnect a reservoir hose and let the reservoir drain, reconnect, refill, put reservoir cap on and start motor. The fluid will go dirty as old circulates. Turen off motor. Repeat several times till fluid is nearly all fresh - easy.

Re: Power Steering Flush

Hi fellow X-Trail fans,

Do any of you know whether or not in a T30 2007/8 we can use the conventional (i.e not CVT) automatic transmission fluid (MERCONTM DEXRON TMIIV) in the power steering (DEXRON TMIII). There is a letter difference, V and I. I'd be very grateful.

Cheers, BRIAN

Hi Brian,

The Electronic Service Manual states Dextron III or equivalent.

Re: Power Steering Flush

In 30 years of working on vehicles, I never seen anything but standard old ATF fluid "Dex III" being used in power steering systems.
