Re: nikolov, the x trail is one of the easiest cars for the DIY guy to work on, the drive shaft area is not technically challenging. You may as well replace the transaxle bearing, drive shaft , and wheel bearing, it's no big deal, nothing to fear at all and not big $$.

Re: Grinding sound when turn left and/or press the brakes New Zealand, mate. It's much cheaper to buy anything and pay for the shipping than buying locally from New Zeland But I don't think this is the wheel bearing? I thought this is the Driveshaft Output Bearing that Wiz Au suggested before.
And how bad job changing a driveshaft bearing would be? I tried to figure it out reading the manual but didn't really get it. Do I have to remove the transfer case itself?

Thank mate! But I'm not asking about the hub/wheel bearing. I know how to replace them and I already sourced the front ones. So it's a pending job. But I don't think this is what Wiz Au suggests could be the source of my sound.
My understanding is this is some bearing on the other end of the CV axle?

Re: Just a little update here.
A few weeks ago the Exy developed some funny vibrations on acceleration initially over 80-100 km/h, but later even under say 50. May they were always there. Really not sure. A few weeks ago they were so bad I thought the car is about to disintegrate on the motorway. So I had the front left CV-axle replaced (only the inner CV-joint was bad). The vibrations were gone. I'm still not sure, but I believe the noise is almost gone now. I can't replicate it during steering left and not sure if it is still there when braking. The other issue the mechanics saw was that even if they slightly undo the front right wheel nut the whole wheel hub starts to play more than it should be. This needs some further investigation, but they suspect either the wheel bearing or the wheel hub.I will drive it some more for the next few weeks and I'll see how it goes.
