Grinding sound when turn left and/or press the brakes

Hey guys.
I have this grinding sound coming from the right when I do a left turn or press the brakes, even slightly. The sound disappears the moment I press the accelerator. The other important (probably) thing is that the sound is there only when the car is hot. I need to drive it for at least half an hour (maybe a little bit more) for the sound to develop. So far а mechanic couldn't tell me what is wrong. The brakes, the splash guards, the wheel bearing and the tires itself were checked. Nothing wrong with them. The tyres don't touch anything. No marks there. A few months ago I had a leaking power steering fluid and the power steering was reconditioned. The guys who did it said it can't be the source of the sound. Anyway, they told me there was a loose CV joint !!! and they tightened it. The sound was gone up until a few weeks ago. The sound was there before the steering rack thing, so I don't think it is involved. The gearbox (automatic) was recently flushed and it is very smooth, so I don't think the problem could be there also. The sound is not there when the car is not moving.

Saying that the wheel bearings are OK, all that they have checked is rotating the wheel by hand and checking for some loose movement. The wheel bearings remain my biggest suspect. Any other ideas?

It's X-trail 2001, 2.0, Automatic, 4x4. 270K on the clock. I bought it 15K/8 months ago with no service history.

Video of the sound:

Cheers,
Nick

I'm with you on the wheel bearing, but have also had this issue with a small rock in the brake caliper touching on the disc...but that was all the time. Didn't need to 'get hot'.

perhaps this could be a warped rotor that only becomes apparent when hot.

I'm waiting for the new bearings and will report after I replace them. Regarding the brake callipers, two mechanics checked them and insist they are fine.

But the sound is present even without pressing the brakes when I steer left. Are you suggesting something could be still touching the rotors?

I just reread your post and you say "loose cv joint tightened", can only think it may have been a loose axle nut which would chew out the wheel bearing, and make noises. Axle nut maybe loose again.

It was the first thing to check. The nuts are very well tightened.

Re: Grinding sound when turn left and/or press the brakes

I've only just had a chance to listen to the video, sorry....Umm, drive shaft/CV from the audio/noise. Would explain why it has to warm up, and how it changes upon load (accel/decel)

And now I'm going to really scare you....Tansaxle output bearing on that side, where the driveshaft connects to. In other words, the bit in the gearbox/transaxle/diff that makes the driveshaft and CV's turn. A "Driveshaft Output Bearing".

With these sorts of thing, getting it onto a hoist running while making the sound, and using the stethoscope/hose/tube to listen to specific areas, is the most common way to find it.

Yep, you scared me. Not sure what all that means, as I am a complete noob here, but it does sound scary. Do you know if that's the case do I have to replace just the bearing or the whole transfer case? And probably the drive shaft?
