off road tyres t31

Hello everyone,
I just bought bfg KO2 225/65 r17 tyres for my T31 after installing la lifting kit from Pedders with a 1,75 inch (45mm)lift. They fit very well, no rubbing on full lock. I am using the car on-road 70% and off-road 30%, and I do not want to change tyres every time I go off-road.

My concern and question is about the wear of the bearings using off-road tyres on a T31. Before I had standard 4x4 225/60/r17 and now they are slightly bigger and heavier.
Do the increase in size and weight of the tyre influence the wear of the bearings? Are there any off-road bearings or any other kit that will prevent the fast wearing of the bearings?
What is your experience about this?
Thank you all for your time and advice.

Re: off road tyres t31

I would have to look up the specs on the bearing, but considering others I have checked, the bearings are usually well over-rated for the application, and the small extra weight/leverage/newtons of force increase from the larger heavier tyres should be miniscule compared to the bearing's rated load capacity. And no, there's no such thing as "4WD bearings", there are just different categories of bearings, like the type of seals used, and the 'clearance', like "C3". I can't think of anything other than changing the dimensions of the bearing that would increase the load capacity, including 'way out there' things like ceramic rollers instead of steel.

If anyone knows the bearing number, I'd be happy to look up the specifications from a couple of different manufacturers. (Nissan do not make their own custom bearings, no car manufacturer does. They will be something like SKF, NTN, Nitto, Timken, Denso, something we can find.)

Re: off road tyres t31

I have been running 225 70 17 tyres for about 80k km and no issues with bearings.
I do think it has sped up the softening on the control arm bushes with the extra leverage, however it has 140k on it now and have not had to change anything, and i do give it a fairly hard time too.
I think you will be alright to use them all the time.
BTW mine isn't lifted.

Any pics of your lift? I have a T31 looking at new tyres now... not sure to stay with 17 or go down to 16 and a bigger tyre.... clearance seems to be a factor... what does the 45mm lift look like and can you go higher?

Re: off road tyres t31

I'm new to the world of x-trail. I am about to put new tyers on my 2009 2.0 T31 x-trail 4x4i. I am deciding between 215/65R17 or 225/65R17 my concern is putting extra strain on the cvt gear box and drive chain with the bigger 225/65R17. Has anyone had experience with these? And how much will it limit my travel?
My current options are:

. Yokohama G015 215/65R17
. Falken wildpeak at3w 225/65R17
. Goodyear grandtrek at5 225/65R17

I don't want to choose a tyer that cases damage to the car transmission. Bearings or bushes are fun easy replacement. Transmission not so much I'm also very new to auto gear box unfortunately there isn't much available in manuals in New Zealand.
I must say that it was not my first choice the X-Trail but I am happy with it. I underestimated it in the past. And even my friends are very surprised when I go where I go with a stock standard x-trail. Without pushing hard.

Re: off road tyres t31

I run 235/65/17 Hankook Dynapro tyres as they a perfect balance for on and off road in my T31 diesel.

I did go and see a CV specialist as the boots kept rubbing themselves to death with the 40cm lifting blocks I put with the bigger wheels. Their solution was to find a CV boot with less highs and lows across it so instead of being a "W" shape it was a "V"shape, no more CV Issues yet.

Just remember the CVT transmissions are made for city use and feel the strain if towing or doing a lot of KM
