Re: XTrail Air Filter

Wow! I bought the K&N filter at lunch time today as well, and now I can hardly wait to get home, put it in, reset the ECU, and be amazed. Hopefully reseting the ECU will ensure that I get all the amazement in one go too. emoticon

Not so fast Stu. Re-set the ECU after 2 days of driving with the K&N and not straight away.

Re: XTrail Air Filter

Oh what? You tell me this now? Oh well, too late. emoticon

I went ahead and reset the ECU straight away. Took it for a spin, and I must admit the engine did seem to run a little smoother. Not sure about a power gain. More like the same power, but more even. Felt like the engine wasn't choking for air, and chugging like it sometimes did. Or maybe it felt more responsive because I was putting my lead foot down a little more than usual. haha. emoticon

Perhaps waiting a few more days will reveal further improvements. Oh and I got the groovy stickers in the box, which are now afixed to my air intake casings.

Now I just have to figure out what the next modification will be.

Re:

Hey guys, I've just spent some good time reading this tread and I'm excited to get myself this mod.
Last update was in 2008, can anyone shed some light on what K&N CAI kit to get? I'm in Perth, I'm hoping Repco or Supercheap will have the kit. Cheers in advance!

Re: XTrail Air Filter

He guys,

I've just been reading this 23p thread..very interesting. But I'm a total noob so I wanted to run some things with you.

What does "exy" mean?

I'm backpacking across Australia and bought my xtrail second hand from a dealer. I just did oil and oil filter myself 7000km after purchase (210000km total).

I'm just about to cross the Nelebor and I want to make sure I have a clean air filter. I've not yet opened the housing yet so I'm not sure what to find or how to identify if it's too dirty. Do all T30's have a paper type on from factory (or at least mine)? Because the manual mentions it can be viscous or paper type. If it's paper it should be possible to clean right? How do I clean this and what do I need to be aware of? Does it also need oiling or other spares (like gaskets) or can i just do it anytime without preparation and a garage (I don't have an address nor time to order in parts and I don't want to have my baby undressed and then find out I'm missing something).

Is there a limit to what the paper type can be cleaned? Do they have to be replaced eventually and if so how do you recognise this as I don't have a complete maintenance history. If so, where can I get one and what is the part number or description?

I've read all the things about K&N filter in this thread and it looks promising but maybe not for me since I'm selling it in 4 months.

I do however notice substantial engine power loss when driving up hill.. My revs drop and at 80km/h I need to switch back to fourth gear. BUT my car is fully loaded, probably 250kg luggage in back and top and 2 passengers so I don't think switching to K&N will help me there.

Cheers

Re: XTrail Air Filter

Exy - is a name some people call their X-Trail based on the X name)

Paper filters are fine for what you will be doing - pull it out and check for the colour and if it 'looks' clean .. give it a tap against your hand and see if any dirt / dust / debris falls from it. If in any doubt - just replace it - it is cheap insurance. A brand new RYCO brand filter is under $16 retail
The Ryco Part # is A360 and will do the job fine, you certainly don't need a K&N..)
The K&N Part number is 33-2031-2

Here are some links that may be useful..

Supercheap Auto - K&N - http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/Product/K-N-Air-Filter-33-2031/88124

Supercheap Auto - Ryco - http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/Product/Ryco-Air-Filter-A360/7085

Also, the drop in power you describe will NOT be fixed by the use of a K&N. on it's own.

Re: Re:

Thanks, will do.
Well the starting point was Sydney, 10000km ago.. Now we're at Port Lincoln so I guess Ceduna is next and then a couple of days driving to cross to Esperance, Albany,...

Have a Ryco $15 filter now btw, will have a look what the old one looks like and probably just swap them.
