I've got a half steel mesh platform installed to my aero bars. Just need the fitting kit. Easy fit.

Re: T31 Series 3/4/5 Roof rack options

Thanks Nananut,
So do you think I could fit a 1100mm wide platform to my factory bars?
Does it attach via the mesh base or the 50mm steel edge for extra strength?

Re:

Not sure if it will fit. It was recommended by my local dealer that the 900mm is the widest that will fit with factory bars. If you want 1100mm, you may have to change the bars. To be 100% sure, talk to a Rhino Rack dealer.

I've just used the U bolt fitting kit to attach via mesh base. Check below. The platform has not moved a single bit and no vibrations even at highway speeds. Only noisy when driving fast into head wind.
platform fitting.

Re:

Is there any reason you'd go aftermarket roof racks over the Nissan factory options?

The factory option seems well priced compared to Rhino, Rola, Pro Rack etc

I prefer the design of RR and PR. If you get RR all the accessories (and there are lots) fit nicely. I also prefer through bars over the curved Nissan bars. But more flexibility. From memory the Nissan ones are rebranded Rola or ProRacks, but they don't come as through bars

Re:

I prefer the through bars too! They seem pretty good if you want to run an awning in the future.

From what I've read on this forum, Thule make the Nissan factory bars.

Can anyone with the factory bars comment on noise?

Re: T31 Series 3/4/5 Roof rack options

I have the Nissan bars. No noticeable noise. Had I had known I would have purchased aftermarket bars without the curve. As others have stated, through bars would have been more practical for me.

Cheers

Well, it sounds like the Pro Rack Whispbar (S16 S-Wing) bar is probably the best option!

Have any members tried the HD (T16 Heavy Duty) bar? http://www.whispbar.com.au/products/category/1/Roof-Racks

I have just fitted the HD Pro Rack Whisperer.

Image

Feels very solid.

25% off at super cheap.

Very simple fitting procedure ( the 2nd rack, not the first emoticon )

Lots of leftovers in the fitting kit.

The HD Pro Whispbar handles my canoes with ease.

The large Rover (4.5m) weighs only 32kg, so we'll under the limits.
