Re: Re-Programming Keyless Remote DIY Guide

Thanks for the instructions! New remote added (MSRA16 from eBay). Didn't work at first then I read the fine print in the first post about the key chime (which I didn't realise had been disabled by a previous owner).

Prices must have gone up since this thread started back in 2006. My local Nissan dealer wanted to charge $60 to add another remote (not to mention the $200 they wanted for a new remote!).

Good stuff Phil. Glad it worked OK for you and saved you a bit of money in the process. What a rip-off by the dealer!

Remote Programming a new Key

Just got myself a 2009 Nissan X-Trail Diesel Automatic (33,000km) and I am very happy with my purchase. Unfortunately it only came with only ONE key so I got a new key from ebay BUT I have terrible trouble get it remote programmed so I can open and close the door with the key only.

These are the instructions which came with the key!!!
You must use ORIGINAL KEY to start procedure
1. Sit in car lock all doors with power “switch lock on driver side door”
2. Using ORIGINAL key insert and remove key till doors UNLOCK within 8 seconds, usually insert and remove six times
3. Turn ORIGINAL key in ignition to ACC position (Do not start engine)
4. Lock all doors with “power door lock switch on Driver side door”
5. Press lock or unlock on NEW key this will match them up, if you have another key press lock or unlock as well, it will be programmed all keys to the same code.
To exit program mode, turn the ignition OFF. UNLOCK the door using the driver side switch. Test fobs

I tried and tried and googled and tried and tried and googled but won't work...any help would be really appreciate!

PS just booked in the car with a Locksmith and they charge $60 to program the chip with the immobilizer too!

Re:

I purchased a 2004 about a week ago and the remote did not work. I tried replacing battery and giving the circuits a good clean to no avail.

Nissan Dealer wanted to $85 just to look at old remote to see if it was knackred or if it was the cars locking system, but the cars locking system worked fine with the key.

I found this page and tried to reprogram the remote to no avail.

Nissan wanted $175 for another remote and Mister Minit wanted $185. I ended up finding 2 Genuine Nissan ones brand new on Ebay and with postage it cos a total of $95 for the 2 and received them in less then 24 hours. Yes they have the Genuine part number and work perfect. They also come with the same instructions as you posted.

Thank you

Cheers Bear

Re: Re:

Hi Adman,

MSRA16 is the correct Model/Part number for a T30 xtrail, that is what is on the sticker on the back of mine. Maybe look on the back of yours & see if yours is different, my xtrail is a 2004 model

Re: Re-Programming Keyless Remote DIY Guide

Hello Jal, I have 2012 T31 XTrail JN1TANT310200784 which has a problem with the most commonly used Remote, which does not work. I have checked the Battery which is 3.04v - I have taken it to a Locksmith and had him identify if the Remote is producing a Signal when a Button is pressed. It does produce a signal, but with no Frequency - a Flat line signal. The Spare Remote does produce a proper Frequency Signal. I would think from this, the Faulty Remote may require programming, although I cannot understand why it would have become defective by losing its program.
I have tried to use the Procedure on your Page "Courtesy Parts, ID Code Entry" and cannot get the Hazards Lights to Flash after inserting the Key into the Key Cylinder 6 or more times.
It would appear this procedure is not for my Remote.
Is there a procedure for these later Remotes?????

I do not wish to pay the Dealer $143 to program it nor do I wish to pay the Dealer a Discounted Price of $177 + $143 to replace and program a new Remote.
Thank you.
