Have emailed long ranger fuel tanks tonight to see about a bigger one for the petrol exy and will let you know the outcome once I hear back!

Hi Scot,
What happened with this?

Also to Dronus,
Did you end up fitting or investigating using the spare wheel well as a place to store your petrol? Now that I have larger tyres and the fact I live in the bush and generally travel further than city folk, I was looking to increase my distance between fills rather than putting 20L fuel drums on the roof racks.

Luckily for me I also paid the $1.96 for fuel at our camping place last weekend (even though I only put 10L of fuel in) as we wouldn't have made it home. Unloaded I would have just made the trip on a full tank and yet the 20L drum I used wasn't enough to get me home. Good thing I believe in contingencies :-)

Cheers,
Ben

Re: Second Fuel Tank Capacity

Hi all,

I'm considering getting a wheel carrier and thought I'd see about utilising the spare wheel well space for either increasing fuel capacity or for carrying water. I emailed LRA and they sent the following response:

'Unfortunately, we don’t manufacture any ‘off the shelf’ tanks to suit the T31 X-Trail. There isn’t any available space underneath the vehicle to expand the existing fuel capacity and it would be illegal to have an internal fuel tank. We can design and manufacture a water tank to suit your requirements but obviously we will need the vehicle to take measurements and work out the best water storage solution for your needs.'

Has anyone increased the fuel capacity in their T31? If so who did to go through?

I also emailed a company called 'Tough Toys', who have water options. Has anyone installed water tanks? If so who did you go through?

It appears as though I may have to continue using jerry cans for the longer trips and go with a water storage option.

Any advice/suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Re: Second Fuel Tank Capacity

Hi Whip,

I keep seeing this ad and thinking that wouldn't be a bad idea ... If only my XTrail was diesel.

Found the product this morning which may be an alternative solution for what you are looking for. Note, there are many just like this design from other manufacturers. I even noticed some cyclindrical (wheel shaped ones of various volumes). Try typing in "diesel bladders" or "4wd bladders" etc into Google and see what comes up.

Re: Second Fuel Tank Capacity

Hi Ben,

Thanks for that. I already had a look at that site, but dismissed those as I am looking for a more permanent option and I don't like carrying fuel inside the car. When I have the jerry cans they go in the basket on the roof. I did speak with the Opposite Lock dealer in town about a wheel carrier and utilising the space in the spare well for fuel and I'm waiting for them to get back to me.

It is looking like I may end up setting up a water bladder in the well instead.

My bad for adding this to the wrong thread. Obviously didn't look hard enough before posting, because now I've seen the thread you started on this exact subject.
