What Year Did the T31 CVT Transmissions Get an Upgrade?

Hi everybody,
I was originally going to buy an auto T30 as I have been informed that the CVT transmissions that came out in the T31 were produced with a bearing that was not really strong enough for its application and there were CVT transmissions replaced under warranty by Nissan due to their failure. (Apparently, you people would know more than me, some that didn't fail had a whine in them) what I want to know is, as I haven't been able to find it on any of the forums here, when the CVT transmission may have been upgraded to make it a more reliable unit. Can anyone answer that for me please? (I hate to purchase one to have a CVT failure)
thank you in advance everyone and may God Bless you Richly!

Thanks Jalaski, I have read the thread now, no one has had any complaints with a 2011 CVT?
God Bless you all,

Mine is a 2011 CVT and I have had no problems with it apart from being a slower X-Trail than my old T30 emoticon

Re: What Year Did the T31 CVT Transmissions Get an Upgrade?

Just for clarification Jalal.
Mine is a T31 series 2 with a May 2010 build.
The series 3 came out later in 2010 as you know.

Are you saying that the CVT problem was fixed for T31s built in 2010, either series 2 0r 3

OR was it only a fix for the series 3 release in 2010 onwards.

I have had no CVT problems although have only travelled 87,000km since purchased in August 2010.

cheers

Re:

Series 3 onwards Dave.

THIS thread should provide good reading for the history of how this problem started and how Nissan dealt with it (Nissan US at least).

John,

I have two Series 4 T31s (built late around Sep 2011) and neither have had any issues.

Re:

Thanks all!
I am now getting a bit concerned about buying an X-Trail as the pre 2006 had the butterfly screw issue, post 2007 had the CVT issue and I was in at a town called Ballarat not far from me and a guy pulled up in his 2006 X-Trail not far from me so I thought I’d walk down and see if he wouldn’t mind sharing his thoughts on his car with me. He said it had been a fantastic vehicle except for at around 100,000km mark he had to have his radiator flushed due to having some temperature issues. The radiator guy told him that it was hot in spots and cold in others and so therefore it was blocked and had to be flushed. Some research tells me there seems to be an issue with some casting sand blocking others radiators, was this common and what years where affected by it or should I check other threads or start a new one about this? Thank you everybody and God bless you all!

Re:

The casting sand issue is an issue caused by some owners (or their mechanics) not using the Genuine Nissan Coolant in the radiator. The radiator of the X-Trail develops and reacts badly to aftermarket coolants of any type.

Please use the site search to check further posts about this.

If not fixed in time this issue can lead to a blown head gasket.
