mjspec's Snow Storm T31

2010 Nissan X-Trail Series 3 ST
Petrol CVT
Snow Storm (white)

I bought the exxy in 2013 as a daily driver that could support our occasional camping trips.
We also travel a bit for family down the South East.
Now that we can afford it I'm looking to upgrade a few bits and pieces!

Our ST has no factory options so I'm looking to add a few of those over time as well.
I recently added the 17" alloys which are much nicer for city driving and put some proper A/T tyres on the factory steel wheels for off road.

Wheels/Tyres
16x6.5" ET45 215/70R16 Bridgestone Dueler H/L 683 (replaced after 40K Kms)
16x6.5" ET45 235/70R16 Bridgestone Dueler A/T 694
17x7" ET40 225/60R17 Bridgestone Ecopia 850

Factory Options Wishlist
Rear protection tray (rubber boot liner) $90
Smoked bonnet protector $65
Cargo barrier $495
LH cargo drawer $210
Roof racks(?) $265
Factory nudge bar(?) $885
Fog lamps $295

Aftermarket Wishlist
Nudge bar...
> ECB 76mm "low loop" $925
> ECB 63mm Series 2 "high loop" $999
> ARB alloy $834
HID/LED spotlights $tbd
Pro Rack HD T16 bar $324 + K423 mount $64
Roof basket or pod(?) $tbd
Bash plates $tbd
Awning $tbd

I look forward to trawling the forums for your advice and recommendations!
If there are any must-have items then please let me know. emoticon

Give the HID spotlights a miss and do LED instead.

HID takes a while to warmup when turned on so you don't get full brightness straight away which can be awkward when you dip your spotties for an oncoming vehicle then turn back on again. Also any restrike of the arc when hot degrades the life of the bulb.

LED is instant on. Have you looked or thought about an LED lightbar ?

Re:

I had thought about an LED lightbar now that they are legal.
The main reason for looking a HIDs was to get a spotlight / spread beam combo setup.
Plus they look the business!

Interesting article here - http://www.outbacktravelaustralia.com.au/4wd-mods-electrics/led-driving-lights-on-test

Do you have one and how do you find it?

Don't have one YET but will soon.
Check out this post in the UK Xtrail forum. That is the lightbar I want emoticon

Where will you be using the lights mainly, open road or bush tracks ?
Watching the videos of the different lights in your link, most of them did not illuminate the sides enough for bush driving and were better suited to highway driving, though still need good spread for the roos on dusk on the highway too.

Pro Rack Whispbar HD T16 bar $324 down to $238 was $190
Pro Rack K423 mount $64 was $51
Roof basket generic (1250 x 950 x 120mm) $195 down to $108 was $86

I would think mostly open road.
But my main concern is enough light to see any skippys on the sides of the road up ahead.

I'll some photos once the roof racks are fitted. It's not very exciting yet.
