T31 TL Theft Horn Location

Hi guys

Can anyone tell me where the theft horn siren is located in the engine bay? Seems like there is a 3rd horn/siren unit for the T31 TL, because after removing the 2 front horn units (behind the grille), there seems to be a 3rd unit hidden somewhere because when you press the horn, it still sounds.

The reason I know it's the theft horn is when I removed the fuse for the theft horn, it stopped making sound. I've researched everywhere and have gone through all of the service manuals documentation and there is nothing on this theft horn unit (or lack of diagram showing the exact location in the engine bay).

The reason I'm asking is because I am changing my standard horn unit with aftermarket ones, and although the horn works perfectly fine, there is a second tone coming from the theft horn and that combo sounds terrible. So I want to get it replaced too so it has all the same tone.

Thanks guys.

Re:

For your T31 model (Series 4 and 5 TL) which comes with factory pre-fitted theft alarm, the factory horn has an additional relay that is linked to the IPDM E/R (INTELLIGENT POWER DISTRIBUTION MODULE ENGINE ROOM) which enables the alarm sound to be produced by the horn. There is no separate Siren Unit (horn) for the alarm.

This means that when changing to an aftermarket horn, it will also impact on your factory alarm and how it sounds.

The IPDM unit is located in the engine bay right side (standing in front of the car) under the air filter box.

No there actually is a 3rd unit. When I removed both horn units behind the front grille I can press the horn and it would still make beeping sound.

When I removed the 10A fuse for "Theft Horn" from the box under the air filter pipe, I presume this is the IPDM unit you are talking about, that will disable that last horn unit. But I think doing that will disable triggering of audible sound when theft mode is activated.

I looked in the service manual and there is no dedicated siren control unit like it is the case with the previous TL T31 models, the Series 4 and 5 models don't have a siren unit, or at least I couldn't find it being mentioned in the service manual.

The best thing to do is either check with your local electrician or call a Nissan dealer to enquire about it.

Strangely, our diesel T31 TS only has one horn front and centre behind the grille but it doesn't work. The only one that works is the one behind the passenger side headlight. I wish I knew this before I pulled the grille apart 😄.

Yeah me too, I was even struggling to remove the grille because the front factory fitted nudge bar was in the way!
