Re:
Scot,
To test if the bushes are worn, jack the car up and use a large jimmy bar to try and pry the lower control arm up and down as well as side to side looking out for movement.
If there is no play in the bushes then they are fine.
I think Nissan have quoted you for the whole control arm, the bushes will be far less to get replaced on their own.
Speak to your local mechanic as he will be able to test them as well as look at the CV's.
Don't take Nissan's word as gospel.

Re:
picked up my T31 from Nissan today from its 70K service, all was fine except they said the discs need a slight skim which is fine, although they then said the front lower control arm bushes are cracked and needs replacing...Like Scot said $950. They said that the complete arm needs to be replaced which is why its so expensive. The other thing they mentioned was that there is no after market arm, which means you can only use Nissan parts, hence the price.
Has anyone had to replace theirs? If you did, did you get Nissan to do it or someone else? and the obvious question, how much did it cost you in the end (and was the wheel alignment included?)
thanks in advance
Sam

Re:
Sam,
Have a look at this address
Alibaba have heaps of complete control arms for sale.
There are some there for a T30 selling for $20 - $25 (with a minimum purchase of 4 units) only catch is you have to buy in bulk, some have a minimum of 1 piece, some 10, some 100.
You can negotiate for a single sample piece too.
Still a hell of a lot cheaper going this way.

Re:

So obviously the high cost is due to labour??

Re: T31 lower control arm bushes.
I would get the part number from Nissan and buy from here. I have used before and the price is usually about 1/3 of what nissan quote.

Re:
thanks Todd
My local suspension place came back to me advising that he doesn't think the bushes are gone as there is no vibration under acceleration. There is only vibration through the steering when braking. The car is booked in on Mon for skimming the discs and he will have a look at the bushes.
He said that he has found a place on line for the arms and the cost would be about $400.
I will contact Nissan on Mon to get the part number and see the price on website Todd has suggested. Then compare the price of parts and labour vs local place.
Ill let you know how I go

Re:
Dropped the car off for servicing today and got a call saying that my lower control arms have split and require replacement. Same astronomical cost as stated in this thread.
The car has only done 60,000kms in the 6 years I had, so am not sure how could the control arms get damaged with such low mileage.
I told them to leave it, as I would like to get a 2nd opinion but the car drives normally with no shakes or anything like that.
