Re: Poor Radio reception and fan speed?

Was an Aerpro APP0120 part number, the head unit is an Eonon G2104 all in one unit. Eonon uses an ISO port which looks pretty standard fair. In pic attached pin A3 (Antenna power +) traces back through the loom to the yellow/red antenna amp wire. Doesn't seem to be able to supply the required 12v.

Re: Poor Radio reception and fan speed?

Look at the diagram in the user manual for the unit's output plug. Pin 3 is used for a dual purpose Amp ON signal and Ant Power. As there is a separate wire for the Amp ON, you should check that pin 3 of the connector to the unit does actually wire to pin 3 of the ISO connector.

Also some radios have a setup option to send power to the aerial or not. Though I could not see that in the user manual, you should check all your settings to make sure there is not an option for this which has been turned off.

Re:

Yeah Kev I'll have to double check to be certain, it's possible I may have made a mistake tracing the wires, will also have to borrow a multimeter. As for the settings definitely nothing in the menu system for antenna power.

Re: Poor Radio reception and fan speed?

Today was a good day, after finally cracking it with crap to non existent radio reception on my aftermarket head unit, and triple checking my wiring of the antenna amp and knowing it was correct the light bulb went off that maybe i should check the amp in the antenna on the roof.

Corrosion and then some, that is what I found so no wonder, but to look at the antenna from the outside looked perfectly fine. Where this setup fails is the large rubber grommet that seals the antenna housing to the roof, once it's pliability goes it's no longer effective at sealing the unit.

So off to Ryda to pickup one of the Aerpro AP199 oem replacement antennas for $65. It comes complete with wiring all the way into the head unit, although a fair amount of effort is required to replace this antenna complete.

However, the beauty of the xtrail is that it is so simple to pull apart compared to most other cars, no service manual required, in this job you need to drop the front of the headlining and all parts that mate to it, as well as drivers dash glove box and console surround, but it is certainly only a one man job.

...and now the radio reception is fantastic finally.
