Shifting out of Park

I'm having troubles shifting from Park into reverse, it requires the shift lock override (red button) to be pressed while moving the gear lever. Brake pedal is depressed as required with normal selector shifting. Did a search but couldn't find a fix.

Re: Shifting out of Park

Parking on a slope as Jalal asks can with a handbrake not adjusted properly, causes the transmission to roll onto the locking pin which makes it harder to shift out of Park with an audible clunk.
Usually it needs both foot on brake and ignition switched on to operate the shift-lock solenoid.
If you are doing both of these and it is not parked on a slope then you could either have a faulty shift-lock solenoid or the connector is loose.

Re: Shifting out of Park

It's happening on flat ground, booked in at mechanics Monday. He thinks it could be faulty switch from brake pedal.

Re: Shifting out of Park

If it is a faulty brake switch then I would expect your brake lights not to be working either.

Re: Shifting out of Park

All sorted, interlocking switch from brake pedal was faulty, replaced with new one.
