Re:

The news report today said that it could take all car manufacturers a full year to complete this recall and re-fit so many airbags, as the company can't keep up with producing so many replacements.

Can you imagine having to drive with a "time-bomb" for a year!

Re: T30 X-Trail Recall Aibarg Inflator

That would be a really bad case of the heebie jeebies. I'm still a little put out because when I rang last week to confirm the Cube had been done in the July recall last year, they couldn't find the vin for ages. The woman kept saying 'oh tonnes were done, Im sure its fine' and then I was put on hold for another extended period before someone else picked up the phone. The conversation then was 'your X-Trail is fine bye.'
There are two illegible recall stickers within the door but nothing that looks new enough to be from that one - and I think I had a total of three recalls on my list. Nothing in the log book either - is there anywhere else on the car they would note the fix? Otherwise I guess just wait for a letter?

That's where they place the recall stickers, on the driver's side door jam.

Re: T30 X-Trail Recall Aibarg Inflator

So just to confirm that all T30 xtrails 2001 - 2007 are affected by this recall. Should we wait for a notice to be sent or go ahead and book it in with the dealer for replacement of airbags?

Re:

A notice would be sent to all affected owners but don't expect it anytime soon, as it could take them a full year to do so.

The recalls website states that the affected range of vehicles is between years 2003-2007 (see HERE)

Chances are it will only be the Series 2 T30 with that date range

Re: T30 X-Trail Recall Aibarg Inflator

i rang Nissan yesterday and they told me this recall was separate to the airbag inflator issue but they couldn't tell me if i was affected until they investigated further. did the call lady know what she was talking about or is this the same issue as before?

Re: T30 X-Trail Recall Aibarg Inflator

Different issue.
As the lady correctly stated, the first was to do with incorrect strength inflators causing possible injury from too strong deployment.
The current recall is for moisture entry into the capsule causing corrosion possibly resulting in injury from flying fragments of the metal casing.

Re: T30 X-Trail Recall Aibarg Inflator

Should this be moved to a different recall thread?

So annoying. I just had my car fixed for the previous issue. Now I'll have to wait for a year to change my airbags. Do we know if its one bag in particular or all of them that will require changing?

Re:

I have also spoken to Nissan (as my car definately is one on the list). They dont have any information at all yet as to when anything will happen.

My question is should we disable the air bags - I personnally think I will. Apparantly Toyota in the USA is recommending people do that!

Of course now the real question - how does one disable the air bags on a T30??

(Should this TAKATA shrapnel issue be put onto its own discussion thread?)
