Re:
They're both T30s and that's correct, however the 2005-2006 (Series II model) one is designed to work with stricter emission control system and has been de-tuned at the ECU to allow it to operate with 2 catalytic converters. Your Series 1 T30 model currently operates with one cat converter and produces more power (132KW compared to 129KW for the other engine).
The internals themselves will be identical between the 2 engines, but you will need to check with the mechanic if you also need to upgrade your ECU and exhaust system at the same time to allow for the 2nd cat converter to operate.

Re: Want to put a manual 2005-6 Engine into my manual 4/2002 ST T30.
I expect it should be that simple as the mounting of the gearbox to the engine will have the same bolt pattern and as you have a 2002 Xtrail, you should be able to keep the same exhaust and ECU without the need for swapping them because the emissions will be tied to the manufactured year of the vehicle, not the engine.
Just reset the ECU before you start it so that all the parameters go back to factory default.
