T30 rear diff questions.

Hi all

I want to find out how reliable is the rear diffs on the T30 and for interest sakes the T31 model.
Has anyone had to replace or repair a diff and also what is the recommend oil change interval for them?
Another technical question I have is when in 2wd mode is the rear diff doing any work or does it only engage when in 4 wd mode?

Re: T30 rear diff questions.

Hi,
The oil change is detailed in the service manual...(maybe 80,000km?)
I have changed the rear differential and transfer case by my self at 130,000 kms.
Castrol syntrax GL5...
The oil that came out was ok I guess from the color...it was 20% less than should have been...there were no leaks...I wiped the drain bolt magnets to remove black stuff.
The transfer case is important.
The oil had fine silver metal which is normal; the rear diff was clean though since we use the car mostly front wheel drive so the rear diff is not constantly under load.
Next oil change in a few years...
When in front wheel drive there is no torque to the back wheels so the propeller shaft spins along unloaded...therefore there is no stress on the rear diff.
