The simplest way to ensure there is no air trapped in the cooling system is to ensure that the radiator cap is at the highest point in the cooling system. Park the car on a slight incline, and wait untill everything is cool.
Start the car with the radiator cap off, and let it warm up. The air should automatically bleed out, as the cap is the highest point, and with the cap off, the air can escape.
While doing this, you may see bubbles in the top of the radiator. If this doesnt stop after some time, then the air is infact more than likely a faulty head gasket.
