Re:

indeed it is very disappointing when you hear such nonsense from the so-called expert at the dealership. Suffice to say I will not be taking my exy there for anything whatsoever.

Regarding the SD Card containing the maps - is there some security measure on the card which prevents it just being plugged into another vehicle to update the maps (or just copying the card and using that in the other vehicle?). Please note I am not condoning this, obviously I wouldn't like to deprive Nissan of $450 for the lengthy and complicated process of plugging in an SDCARD (so much could go wrong, they may insert the card upside down for example) emoticon

I'd really love to hear from anyone who has the latest map on their series 5 and the relevant map version/year details as posted above. I'll buy you a beer! emoticon

Re:

Copying of the card won't work, as each card will have its own key for the software contained in it to work with your navi system. They wouldn't make it easy like that for us mate emoticon

Re: T31 Series 5 Nissan Connect System (including Navigation)

Is it a simple matter of just inserting a new map update SD card into the unit to update maps from the SD card, or does it have to be done at a Nissan dealer. Also what is the latest map version for the Nissan Connect unit, is it-
 MapVersion: sd2-
CONNECT_2012_AUSNZL v3

Re: T31 Series 5 Nissan Connect System (including Navigation)

Hi all,

i have recently just been through all this when i picked up my 2013 T31 Ti (build date : Aug 2013).

Nissan Part# 25920LCN

This correlates to the following information:

CONNECT_2012_AUSNZL v3 (as displayed on the navigation unit when querying the map data)

AUSTRALIA 19, NEW ZEALAND 8, NISSAN LCN (as printed on the front of the SDCARD)
Photo - Click Me

BH1118016134D (as printed on the back of the SDCARD)
Photo - Click Me

So unfortunately I have to report that according to the information I have been provided by Nissan Australia, 2012 v3 is the latest version of maps as of July 2014.

You can see the full story in my other post here :

So according to Whereis, they update their maps on an annual basis, then why don't Nissan make available the maps annualy. We users can't access the map updates directly from Whereis? We have to purchase directly from Nissan at super inflated prices!

Re: T31 Series 5 Nissan Connect System (including Navigation)

Well, in shear frustration and needing to have upto date maps in my Nissan X-trail fitted with the Nissan Connection SatNav system with Whereis map data, I have finally installed my old Garmin Nuvi 1490T in my T31 (2013 model).

All I can say is - what a joke the Satnav system in my car is with its already out of date maps when I purchased the car a month ago.

Apparently Nissan and Whereisn't have some sort of sweetheart deal going, so that if I want the latest maps, I can't go directly to Whereisn't, (that have annual map updates), but have to go to Nissan and buy old, out of date maps at a greatly inflated price.

Well. not this unhappy Nissan/Whereisn't owner, I will stick with my old Garmin and Nissan and Whereisn't can go to buggery over this engineered corporate rip-off.

I suggest that if anyone is considering using a GPS unit in their X-Trail, then go for an aftermarket unit and not one that utilises Whereisn't maps.

The Whereisn't maps are hopless for me where I live in rural NSW, especially so for those that are out of date by about 2 years.

PS: My Garmin came with free lifetime map updates, - go figure Nissan and Whereis n't.

Re:

Just a quick follow up on this ridiculous issue that Nissan have generated.

At this time I have resorted to using my Old Garmin Nuvi. At least it sees the intersection at the end of my street as a four way intersection (as it is) and not a T intersection as the Connect unit does. Thus the Connect unit with its hopelessly outdated maps always tries to detour me when I approach the intersection (the intersection has been a cross road intersection for at least 20 years.) Imagine how frustrating and annoying that is for me.

Anyway I contacted Whereis regarding their relationship they have with Nissan and their map upgrades. According to Whereis they say -
that they have supplied to Nissan this year (2014) a update of data to produce a new version of map update. The decision is made by Nissan as to when that update is loaded into its vehicles.

In fairness to Nissan after I contacted them, I must say that they offered to send me a map update for my month old car. Great I thought, no more 2 year old maps, sanity is finally prevailing and I will be able to use my SatNav unit to its full potential. Can you imagine my utter disappointment when I received the new SD card and installed it into my SatNav only to learn that it was the same old out-dated version that I already had?

I have informed Nissan as to this latest oddity and I am now awaiting Nissans response to this on-going saga I find myself embroiled in.

I must also stress that when negotiating the initial purchase of the car I was told by the salesperson that it would come equipped with 2013 maps.

I will keep you informed as to what does or doesn't happen.

I've just changed to Alpine x008 8 inch head unit and trying to locate the 5.5v trigger wire Tom mentioned and see if i can work a fix to using the Console camera button to activate the AVM properly. Any ideas where to locate this trigger- is it in the OEM head unit wiring somewhere ?
