18" Dunlop SP Sport 7000 A/S (for T31 Series 3, 4 and 5 Ti and TL)

Hi Guys,

I haven't seen anyone discuss the 18" Dunlop SP Sport 7000 tyre that comes fitted on a Ti and TL Series 3,4 and 5 in the 225/55/18 size with a load rating of 97V

Yet again Nissan Australia chose to fit a tyre that is not available from Dunlop Australia.

Dunlop Australia website currently gives me that Dunlop Grandtrek ST20 as a replacement option but they don't have the correct/matching size in 18" as it only comes in 225/65/18 size.

I know it may still be early days for some of you to replace their tyres, as you would expect them to last a bit longer, but have you started thinking of what options are available in the 18" range if you want to stay with this size tyres?

Personally, I found the factory Dunlop SP Sport 7000 to be excellent. Very quiet on the road and they grip well in wet conditions, so they seem to live-up to their definition of being an All Season (A/S) tyre.

They can be found in the US for less than $200 bucks each (see HERE)

Cooper CS4's are an option as a replacement tyre -Cooper Tyres

I haven't had any experience with these but Coopers in general seem to be pretty well made.
Yokohama Geolanders are available overseas in 225/55/R18 but I don't know if they can be ordered in Aus.

Thanks Rob,

There is also the FALKEN 225/55R18 98H ZE912 that is suitable and available locally for around $180.00 per tyre.

Jalal I would have to wholly agree that the SP Sport 7000 (fitted to my TL) is an excellent tyre. I have had Dunlops on my cars for a lot of years (between other brands) and I tend to often go back to Dunlops because of their quiet ride and incredible durability. Certainly the current tyres seem to be wearing very well and they haven't yet let me down off the road either.

I have been doing a bit of research on tyres myself for future reference and I am quite disappointed in the lack of a Dunlop replacement although I'm told my local Nissan dealer can supply 7000s. Personally though I have to agree with other opinions in this forum that seem to lean towards either the Yokohama Geolander or the Cooper CS4. The Cooper is quite enticing in that it comes with a 70,000km warranty.

Luckily being as I have a novated lease I'm not concerned about price. And I firmly believe that with tyres, in most cases you get what you pay for. So I'll probably go for the Coopers.

I may have to revise my statement above regarding the factory fitted Dunlop SP Sport on my Series 4 Ti, as I just received a call from the dealership telling me that all 4 tyres are down to their last 2mm before the wear indicator and I have only done 29,000kms! emoticon

Even the old 15" Toyo tyres I had on my T30 lasted much longer than that.

The dealership said that it was very common to see this particular tyre wear-out at about 36,000kms or so.

Time to shop around for a replacement, as I don't think I will pass rego with these tyres this year.

I know its a old post but just a response to your last comment Jalal.

The dunlops on my TL have been holding up awesomely (not a word I know). I've been driving on them for 38000km now and don't even look like they are half way yet. Pretty happy with the performance they give.

Wanting them to last a while as i'm still saving for my new wheels and tyres emoticon .

The Dunaplops on my Diesel manual only have 15,000kms on them, already the fronts are getting a bit low.
I'm going to swap them over to the back and keep an eye on them.

I think the Cooper CS5's are going to get a look in next.

Re:

just an update while I'm here.

My Dunlop SP Sport 7000's are still going strong. I drive quite abit and now on 49000km.

I do drive pretty hard at times (having owned past import nissan coupes) and they are doing really well with about 3mm still above indicators with even wear across the board. Nissan haven't reported any issues with tyres on my last service which is good.

They've been awesome tyres.

I hate to blackcat, but I'm now up to 60,000km on my Dunlop 7000s. I am guestimating at least another 5000km in them too.

I put the longevity down to regular rotation. I normally have the tyres rotated front to rear at every service.

I also firmly believe in keeping the pressures up. The placarded pressures on the highway simply isn't enough. I generally run them at 35PSI.

Re:

Wow, that's amazing.

I think it was my mistake for trusting the dealer to rotate the tyres rather than doing it myself, as it just looks like they have never done it for the tyres to disappear with less than 40,000kms on them.

I will be far more cautious with the new set of tyres I now have.
