And it has nothing to do with the subject of this thread either emoticon

Please move this disucssion to either the existing Left Throttle Project which you have previously started or the existing CAM and Crank Sensor fault which is a common one for all T30s due to age.

P.S. Both sensors must be changed at the same time.

Nope Paul, 20 mins is not enough to re-set the ECU by disconnecting the battery, it needs to be left disconnected overnight if you wanna do it this way. I assume you have reconnected the battery now, in which case, re-set the ECU by following this DIY Guide but only after you have driven with the K&N filter for 2 days at least.

Hello Jalal,

Am planning to install the K&N filter this weekend.

Any specific reason as to why I need to drive around for 2 days at least? Any specific distance that I must run over the two days? Do I need to say run 40 kms in each trip?

What if I do a small run with the K&N and then re-set the ECU?

Sorry for all the questions

Cheers

Hi Barry,

I just estimated at 2 days to give you a chance to drive at least over 100kms distance for the ECU to pick-up the new air flow ratios. If you know you gonna be driving a long distance in one day, by all means re-set the ECU straight after you return from that long trip, but re-setting the ECU after only 40kms of driving won't achieve anything.

Thanks Jalal!!

So basically no ECU re-set immediately after installing the K&N!!

I don't do over 20 - 30 kms a day, so guess ECU reset in my case will be after a week!! emoticon

When ECU is reset, will it also reset Accelerator Throttle Release Position, Throttle Valve Closed Position, Idle Air Volume and Idle Speed to default?

I just had my Idle Speed re-learned with Consult 11 but accelerator pedal feels strangely hesitant at low revs.

Re: How to Reset/Reprogram your ECU - T30 Series I & II

Well, I did 24 hour battery disconnection ECU reset after my wife complained about
car stalling not far from home.
Suspect cam and crank angle sensors playing up.
Did the reset anyway and car runs at slightly lower revs, even throttle is smoother
when gear changing.
Another thing is my fresh and rec air switch works properly now. Before it was only in fresh air position and would not change over to rec air.

I will change over cam and crank sensors at the next service just in case as there is no entry
in service record if they ever been replaced and don't want to risk another stalling
incidents.
Great website. Cannot believe how much I learned already about Xtrails.
cheers

Hi guys, mine is 2006 X-Trail 2.0L Auto, and just got service done (engine oil/filter, new drive belt, new air filter, throttle cleaned). Should I do an ECU reset in my case? If yes I suppose the same process stated in the start of the thread to be followed? thanks heaps guys.

Not really, no ECU re-set is required after standard servicing.

Re:

thanks very much jalalski. from reading the posts seems like a reset is needed after replacing air-filter (as the amount of air coming into engine would be different afterwards)? am I understanding not correctly? also do you know if my engine is series I or II? I believe the model is XTT 2.0 petrol. Thanks!
