Thinking of trying overisze tyres on T31 18"

Hi Everyone, Ive had my exy nearly 3 months now and need a full set of tyres. Been doing a bit of reading on the forum and am leaning towards the Cooper CS4'. Now they do an exact tyre size which is 225/55/18 but i was thinking of trying to get some extra clearance and try the 235/65/18. First of all will they fit? I understand it will knock my speedo out a by about 8% which is not a problem for me but is there anything else i need to consider?

Anybody else tried to go bigger with the 18" rim?

235/65/18 won't fit without some mods the the wheel wells. The largest diameter tyre that anyone I know has put on an X-Trail is 736mm and in some cases that requires mods to the wheel well. The tyres you are talking about would be 763mm diameter.

Thanks mate, was hoping to get some extra road clearance with the bigger Tyre. Never mind will have to stick to the 225/55/18 then. Anybody know the best place for copper tyres brisbane northside?

Has anyone found a decent AT tyre for their 18" wheel? Or recommend a tyre suited to 70% sand/30% dirt mud??? I' ex looked all over here and elsewhere. Geolander ATS are pretty tough looking but how do they do on sand??

Re:

I bought 225/60R18 winter tyres. It feels a bit softer do drive, but witer tyres are softer too. The auto box shifts a bit different too. No rubbing. Speedo error vent from 7kmh to 3-4kmh. One problem is that the original Jack barely lifts the car up to get the wheel off.
Fuel consumption raised like 0,7l/100km, but i do not know is it from the tyres alone(winter/summer or bigger diameter). I prewarm the car a bit too before i start to drive. Temps below 0C right now and my battery current sensor is disconnected.

Re: Thinking of trying overisze tyres on T31 18"

Hi all.
I am also thinking about larger rubber on my t31 6 speed diesel as it is currently on 215/60/17 and the speedo is under reading by about 12%, so every 1000 km i pay in road user tax I am not getting 120km.
I have previously had Hankook tyres on my nissan Terrano and they worked brilliantly. The Rf10 are a fantastic all terrain tyre which are quiet on the road and never got stuck when soft in sand or snow or shingle.

I want to know can I get a 235/70/17 in and working without any issues?
Thanks
Andy

Andy,

I have 235/65/17 with Yoko Geo A/T on my T31 and they fit perfect, no rubbing at full lock or anything.

Issues you will come across is fitting the spare wheel in the wheel well. Even if you fully deflate it it i think your going to struggle.

I read through this forum thoroughly before selecting my tyres because i too wanted 235/70/17 but was getting mixed reviews from people.... I'm happy with my selection.
