If only this was the case.

The dealer lied to me.

1. The Nissan dealer at Charleville said the parts were ordered.
2. The day before taking the vehicle to the dealer I rang and was told the parts had arrived
3. When I picked up the vehicle the dealer confirmed that they had done the work
4. The work was NOT done
5. The parts were NEVER ordered.

I called Nissan and made a complaint. Nissan Customer Service made excuses and couldn't care less.

I'M VERY DISAPPOINTED IN NISSAN AUSTRALIA!

I think you should put your feelings in writing to Nissan Australia and maybe even the Japanese. They take service & more importantly good customer service very seriously. \

Get your missive translated into Japanese & sent registered post to Nissan Japan, I reckon you will see some action.

I think they are being insulated from the various issues by the Aust dealers & even Nissan Australia.

There are some interesting video clips on YouTube from diesel owners trying to address the DPF regen nightmares and nope, it is not limited to the T31 X-Trail Diesel or Nissan brand in particular, so the pain is shared by many!

Even BBC got involved in investigating the DPF issues across different car manufacturers.

I find it VERY interesting what Nissan claimed they're doing in terms of educating new and existing owners about the behaviour of the diesel and find that in most cases reported in Australia, Nissan Australia and its dealers have been acting like almost setting a trap for existing owners to get caught with this issue so they charge them an arm and a leg to fix it!

"The 1.5dCi, 1.6dCi and 2.0dCi engines fitted to QASHQAI include a diesel particulate filter (DPF) to reduce emissions and help protect the environment. The functionality of a DPF may not be suitable for all customers. If your journeys are predominantly urban or low speed, a model without a DPF may be a more suitable alternative."

Owners will also find clear explanations of the DPF maintenance programme printed in the car's manual.

If the car has been unable to regenerate the DPF automatically, a warning light on the instrument panel indicates that the owner should go for a longer drive to create the necessary conditions for the exhaust to reach a higher temperature. If this is carried out correctly a visit to the dealer will be unnecessary.

If an owner still finds they need DPF regeneration at the dealer, Nissan will cover the first instance under warranty and will again seek to educate the owner about the procedure so further work is unnecessary.

When these instructions are followed and the car properly maintained, the DPF should continue to help drivers protect the environment easily and effectively.

DPF issue


It's worth remembering that press statements and releases are written by people with automotive knowledge, then they are screened by legal "experts" who often don't know a muffler from a flux capacitor!

Once a release exits the legal deartment, any resemblance to the truth is purely coincidental.

The Nissan statement sounds believable to the ignorant, but sadly is not reality.

Prior to buying my vehicle, I dealt with a sales person and the dealer sales manager on numerous occasions. Not once was there a single question relating to intended vehicle use.

Since taking delivery, my Exy has done constant hwy travel, yet the DPF fault has occurred.

As for slaes staff being technically trained re EGR's or DPF's, BULLDUST! Sales staff are essentially ignorant abut them. Those who do know anything about them, know that they are on the vehicle for environmental reasons and that's it.

There are plenty of Service Departments whose staff haven't got a clue about them either, except for the Service Manager.

The shortest distance my vehicle travels is 40km from the farm to town, 32km of which is at 100km/h.

Therefore, based on my experience, the Nissan explanation about short trips being the cause is totally invalid.


FYI... for those of you interested re the dealer dishonesty issue i mentioned earlier.. I phoned Nissan Japan and against my wishes they handballed it back to the underperforming Nissan Australia!

This is now my first and definately my last Nissan. I'll be getting rid of my XTrail and buying a Prado. Nissan is a joke!

I feel sorry for you mate - seems your dealer has been most unhelpful whereas mine has bent over backwards to help with the problem. The head mechanic at my Nissan dealer is incredibly knowledgeable about both the M9R engine and DPFs and has given me some great advice.
Since replacing my EGR and DPF I've had a noticeable difference in how the car performs - in fact better than it has ever, which makes me wonder if I had a sick DPF to start with.
She just completed a round trip Canberra to Newcastle and back over the Queen's Birthday weekend and she performed beautifully.
I agree with Nissan's statement about the DPF-fitted diesel not being suitable for short trips. This not only applies to X-Trails but any DPF-fitted diesel car. And I still think that a contributory cause for the problem being amplified in Australia is the poor quality of the standard grade diesel here and is a reason why it's critical that diesel X-trail owners stick only to the premium grade diesel (Caltex Vortex and BP Ultimate). Most critically it has lower sulphur levels which are the main culprit in reducing the life of the DPF.

My T31 - 2012 manual has just been diagnosed with this fault P0488 by roadside assistance. I'm very upset as already this has cost me a lovely morning down the beach with my family. We were heading out and noticed we had no turbo boost, so turned around back to home. It was only serviced yesterday, has anyone else experienced loss of power or just a check engine light?

This code must be common to several faults.

I haven't heard of lack of boost associated with this code.

Hopefully the dealer you go to will be a good one and sort it out for you, because if not, based on my experience, Nissan Australia will be of no assistance whatsoever if anything goes wrong and wil come up with all sorts of excuses why they should sit around with their digit up their date and do nothing!

This X Trail of mine is my first and most certainly the last new Nissan I will buy, because Nissan Australia's sole interest is selling vehicles to dealers, with absolutely no regard for the end user unless they are a fleet buyer.

I came back to the Forum looking the butterfly screw issue one of the Members had a long time back (found it). I decided to have a look in here and see how the Diesel X-Trail was faring compared with the Diesel Forester, sadly it looks no different from either side of the fence.

From my reading of Forums regarding Diesel cars fitted with a DPF, the internet is littered with a lot of unhappy and angry owners. emoticon

How many kms did you end up putting on your old T30 X-Trail?

Yeah, I reckon there are issues with cars regardless of the brand.

I traded my T30 with around 125,000kms on it but it had problems when I gave it to the dealer in place of the T31 and they fixed it an sold it within 3 days and the new lady owner is over the moon with it now emoticon
